You laugh like you care,
You once did, I know.
The sound echoes everywhere
I go.
I can tell what you’re thinking,
There this look in your eyes.
I know by the way you’re hardly blinking,
It’s not come as a surprise.
You have taken everything from me
That I will ever give you.
I’m all used up, you see?
But, I think all along, you knew.
Your nice smile is deceiving
And your lies,
They are misleading.
Now, I even hate your impatient, heavy sighs.
You think I’m yours for the taking,
But I still have fight in me yet.
I won’t be right there, waiting
For all your criticising jests.
Love works both ways,
Don’t treat me like a child.
With you, minutes turn to days,
It gets me kind of riled.
I can’t always explain the feelings
Only you can make me feel.
Sometimes I think you’re charming
Until you lose your appeal.
Once upon a time, you said,
We could have had it all.
But then I was misled
By you and your enthral.
The longer I take to look at you,
The more clearly I see
You’ve turned into someone who
I thought you could never be.
Your mind changes with your mood,
Your disapproval clouded my mind.
No matter how I try,
I can’t treat you in kind.
The view from where I’m standing,
It’s not a pretty sight.
It was a hard landing,
But now I see you in a good light.

This is a poem about someone I thought was a friend, but then I slowly started seeing them for who they really were. The lesson I learned? Don’t put up with it. Putting people down to make yourself feel good isn’t ever okay.
