Ken's order was law in our bunch... I tried to remind myself that I was only doing this because of him. As I ran through the forests headed toward Eastern River territory, I followed the little scent that Louis left behind him as he'd ran this way. It was his job to scope out the territory and see if it might be a feasible area for us to stay near for a few weeks...and my job was to find out why he never returned.

Of course, the most dangerous job would be given to me. Ken hated me. He was the strongest wolf in our rogue pack, son of a gamma. Obviously that made him the leader since there just HAD to be one. I wished I never would have joined Ken.

Ken always sent me on the worst missions. He wanted to breed strong wolves...outside of the mate bond. When I physically fought him...refused him... he didn't want to see me anymore so he decided it would be best to cast me out on every single mission possible. The most dangerous, the furthest away, you name it.

I reached the edge of Eastern River territory and stopped. Louis' sent was just strongest just over the border. I had to find out what happened. I did not want to find him dead, not another one...

Carefully, I crossed the border, checking my surroundings. I knew there were scouts. They would be faster than me, better and bigger than me. Eastern River was a strong pack with a ruthless leader. They were not known for taking prisoners. I thought it was an alright strategy but I wasn't willing to be killed over such a small mission.

I found a tuft of Louis' hair covered in blood where his scent was strongest. They must have taken him for questioning, he got just too close it seemed. Running out of precious time, I texted Ken asking him what I should do. Attempt to go deeper or simply accept that Louis was gone?

Before he could respond I heard the sound of the pack's fighters arriving. I hit the ground running back toward the border. They were gaining on me quickly so I climbed a tree as fast as I good, my backpack proving to be of a decent weight. When they appeared under me I counted 3 fighters. They were young...

I dropped from the tree without a second thought. I landed on one of the fighters and he hit the ground hard. I turned to nail another one in the face with my foot. He flew back into the tree and took a moment to gather his balance. They were used to fighting in wolf form and I hadn't given them time to shift, it was my upper hand.

The third fighter grabbed me by my shoulders, running me backward into a large rock. I gasped in pain but threw my foot up to kick him in the jaw. I leaped off of the rock and landed on top of him and began punching him hard in the face until blood stained my knuckles.

The other two guys were soon back up and fighting. They each grabbed one of my arms and pulled me off the third guy, who was writhing in pain and clutching his nose.

"Dude call for backup!" My left arm captor yelled.

"I already did man but she's f*cking tough," right arm captor mumbled. As he said it, I freed my arm and elbowed him in the gut as hard as I could, then landed a right hook into left-arm's face, causing him to drop me.

"Shift!" Bloody nose was yelling at them both. But they did. Immediately I was held down. They pinned me, one wolf held my arm in his mouth, his bite hurt me hard enough that I cried out as the other held me down with his body. They were clearly better as wolves...

I struggled underneath them but it was no use. My phone buzzed against my thigh. Now Ken replies! Well sh*t. This was quite a stupid way to die. Stupid mission, stupid rogue pack. Bloody nose stood up and towered over me,

"For my beautiful nose, I wanna snap your neck myself."

"Go to Hell," I spit on the ground as blonde strands of my hair clouded my vision.

"Enough," a loud voice boomed over the sound of the blood pumping through my ears. My wolf conceded the voice and I settled, muscles relaxing under my captors who immediately stepped off.

"Alpha," I heard bloody nose, "I was just about to kill this rogue, she smells of the other one."

"Looks like she did a number on you. We will be discussing that later," the Alpha said. I knew of him. Alpha Russell, all rules, all work and no play, no prisoners, and a lot of blood. It's how his pack remained so large. The guys I'd faced were newly shifted.

"Why aren't you killing her?" Bloody nose asked. The other two guys shifted back to humans.

"Don't speak to me that way," The Alpha growled at his inferior.

"So sorry, Alpha..."

"To answer you, I have a few questions for her." He said.

If only bloody nose had just killed me...
