I sit in the chair and struggle even more than I had before. The moonlight was leaving as dawn began to creep out onto Earth.
All I can think about is Ady and the gun shot. "She can't be dead." I continued to tell myself as I listened to the quiet footsteps throught the house. Every other time l could hear my parents talking when they were nearby.
"Maybe we could try giving her food again." I continue to hear my mom say. "You must be out of your damn mind. She attacked you, Ashley." I listen closely to the conversation. "Maybe they were scared. I mean to them, we were dead in their minds, John." My mom says calmly. Is she trying to be nice? When did that happen? "What does that have to do with anything? We left and now we're back and we want our kids. But, when they attack they must be punished." His voice deepens, and the conversation ends there.
I hear the door creak as it opened. You could obviously tell it needed oil on the hinges. My mom, Ashley, comes in with a brown paper bag. Her face is unsure of whether to untie me or not. I give her a slight nod 'Yes' and look at the bag as she set it down on the musty wooden floor.
On her knees Ashley cuts the rope off of my wrists. This time the pocket knife is different. It is a dark oak color with an engraving on it, C. B. and three circles connected next to the initials.
I'm in my own little world as the thought continues to cross my mind. I'm snapped out of my thoughts when Ashley puts away the knife and hands me the paper bag. I smile a little at her and dare to say, "Thanks, you know for defending my food." I pull out a brown spotted banana and a bag of chips. I pop open the bag and offer her a chip. She stares at me and then the chip, "Don't ever. Thank me." She frowns. The lines on her forehead show as she crinkles up her face in anger. I shrug it off and look back down at my chips. My eyes begin to water as I think of Ady again. "Is Ady dead?" I look back up, to see no one there. No surprise.
When our parents told us they were going to Mexico they were more than happy to just walk out then and there without suitcases rolling behind.
I just want Ady to be okay, I just want to know that she's okay.
I finish my food as the door bursts open with an incredible amount of force. My eyes widen and I want to vomit all the food I just ate.
"What. The. Hell!?"
