Chapter 6: The Hum and Pat

I stood at the gymnasium doors, scared to go in. Levy was at her locker getting some things and she told me to go on ahead. Now I wish I had stayed with her.

Those girls were there already. Obviously front and center so that they could get a better view of Natsu. He wasn't there yet. Probably in the room or something.

But I definitely can't go in there with only a couple people here. I'll catch their attention and then then everything will go into shit.

I leaned against the door.
"Maybe if I just wait for Natsu to go in, they'll get distracted and I can sneak in."
I sighed. "Maybe I should just wait for the game to finish and then I come here." I reached into my skirt pocket. Empty.

"What?" I said as I checked my other pocket. Also empty.

Great. Now I lost the paper that tells when the game ends. Guess I have no choice. I'll just wait till Levy gets here and we can get in when the game starts.

I tapped my fingers in a rhythm against the door and hummed a little tune.
One my mom sang to me.

Back Story

When I was a little kid, I was pretty timid. I was too scared to talk to anyone and I had trouble with my Kindergarten year. That's when my mom decided to take me out. I was never good with people, even now. I stutter and have little habits like playing with my hair and sometimes twisting up my bracelet a bunch of times till my wrist feels numb.

My mother and father tried taking me back to school in 2nd grade, but I wouldn't even let go of my mom's hand. She would pet my head and always say "Maybe next year." but it never happened.

Lately, she had become ill as my father has told me in his letters. Her condition is getting worse everyday. He said we have to have a doctor basically living in the house to check on her all the time.

I obviously write back almost everyday.

My mom is the reason I'm here, so that I can prove that I can let go of her hand. That she doesn't need to pet my head or sing me songs when I wouldn't fall asleep.

While I had been tapping my fingers and humming, I had closed my eyes in the process. I got so whimsied up in humming that I didn't even notice someone staring at me.

"That's a beautiful song."

I opened my eyes.

Natsu.

"O-oh! Uh hi!" I said as I gave a small wave.

"I see you came for the whole game." He smirked. "I know, you can't handle Not seeing how awesome I am." He smiled.

I felt my cheeks rise in temperature "I don't have much to do so..." I twisted my bracelet. "It's no problem." I tried to give back a smile just like his but it ended up being an awkward smile.

He laughed and pat my head. "Yeah yeah. Why don't you come inside?"

"Oh n-no I'm waiting for Levy to come. I'll see you inside soon."

"Okay!" He entered the gym and disappeared from my sight.

He pat my head. Just like what mom used to do. I smiled to myself. What's been going on with me Lately?

"I'm here Lu-chan!"

"AHH!" I yelled as I turned around.

"LEVY DON'T SCARE ME LIKE THAT!" I said as I puffed out my cheeks.

She laughed. "Gomen Gomen Lu-chan. Why don't we go inside?"

I huffed a sigh and straightened out. "Ok. Let's go?"

A/N: HI OMG IM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SORRY I HAVEN'T UPDATED. ITS LIKE 12:20 am right now and I'm trying to finish up this chapter and then hopefully start on the next one and have it done by the end of the week. Im sorry there are no promises. BUT IMMA TRY MY BEST. this is basically a little filler chapter since I haven't updated in like forEVER. I was just give a bit of Nalu action and a bit of Lucy's mom backstory. I want this book to turn out well but it takes time and I've been really busy with homework and stuff so I'm soooooooOOOOOO sorry for the late chapters.
