Chapter 9
Johanna's POV
I returned to Kevin's place that night. I couldn't stay with Dmitri. I didn't even much trust him anymore because of what he said. What if he decided to change me while I was sleeping? I couldn't deal with that.
I had a plan of attack for Diablos already and I didn't plan to let Dmitri tag along. If I do die on this mission, I don't want to worry that Dmitri will try to change me to save my life. I had no doubt in my mind that he would do that if he came with me. The only person I could count on right now is Selena.
I pulled Selena aside the next morning when I caught her alone. "I need to talk to you."
She furrowed her brows, glanced behind her at the guys on the couch, and then back to me.
"About what?" She whispered.
"Follow me." I told her and stepped into the living room. We managed to touch the doorknob before Kevin called out to us.
"Where are you two going?" He asked.
I froze at the sound of his voice.
Thankfully, Selena spoke for me. "To get some tampons! We really, really need some!"
I blushed as I watched their reactions. Kevin rolled his eyes, Seth let out an audible 'gross', but Holden's reaction was what I found weird. He blushed like he did when he admitted he liked me. Before I could ponder any longer, Selena pulled me outside.
"What's going on?" She asked me.
"Do you trust me, Sel?" I asked her.
She furrowed her brows. "Of course I do. Are you forgetting we've been partners for like three years?"
I crossed my arms over my chest and bit my lip. I nodded towards the sidewalk and she slowly fell in step with me. I needed to get away from Kevin's place just in case he decided to be nosy.
"Jo, what is this about?" Selena said. "You're freaking me out."
"I don't know how to say this without it sounding like I've gone crazy." I muttered more to myself than her.
"Are you okay? Did something bad happen to you?"
I felt tears swell up in my eyes in realization that it wasn't bad at all. Not one bit. "No, not bad. It's good, it's so good but it's so wrong."
"You're crying, Jo." Selena pulled me into her arms tightly. "What's freaking you out this much? You never cry."
"I have to show you. I can't just tell you." I told her. And it was true. If I simply told her about Dmitri and I, she'd think I was crazy. Maybe think I was already a vampire myself. I had to show her so I'll be able to explain everything to her and she could see that Dmitri wasn't a threat. If I were to tell the others, they would kill Dmitri the first chance they got. And I can't have that happen.
We made it to the hotel in a good fifteen minutes. I stepped up to the front desk and smiled at the receptionist.
"You're back. Are you looking for-"
I stopped her before she said anything else. "Yes, is he in?"
She nodded and handed me the keycard. "He just got in not too long ago. You caught him at a good time."
"Thank you." I said and pulled Selena towards the elevators. She took in the whole building in awe.
"You know some rich guy, Jo?" She asked. "Wait, is this the guy you've been doing the 'naughty' with? Are you going to introduce him to me finally?"
