Chapter 4

Johanna’s POV

I slipped my favorite two wooden daggers into the utility belt as I watched Selena show the guys the weapons around the room. I was still a little angry at Kevin, but I was more worried about the girls that were taken and how the vampires will use them.

After putting my gun into a slot as well, I strapped on the belt around my waist. I had on my black fighting gear already. I tied my hair in a messy bun and looked up to see that Holden had strayed from the group. He was making his way closer towards me while he eyed the weapons, but I could see that he was trying hard not to look up at me. He stopped at one of the Katana swords with a curious gleam in his eye.

I tilted my head to the side. “You sure you want that one?”

He glanced at me, not sure if I was talking to him. This close, I noticed his eyes were a chilling shade of blue.

He still hadn’t answered me so I stepped a little closer to him and gestured to the sword. “A carefully polished, cold steel, double edged Katana sword. It’s hard to use if it isn’t your first time.”

A small grin crossed his lips. “Trust me, it’s not my first time.”

“You know how to fight with that?” I asked.

“My dad taught me how to fight.” He shrugged as if it was nothing. “How did you learn?”

“I taught myself.” I told him.

“You guys ready?”

The both of us turned around to see Selena and Seth waiting for us. Seth had a utility belt as well with a couple of guns and a dagger. Selena cocked a hand on her hip, waiting for my response. I saw her sniper and wooden dagger strapped to her back. She can’t go anywhere without that thing.

“Ready.” I told her and grabbed my wrap from on top of the table. I wrapped it around my head quickly and handed Holden one as well. “We need to keep our identities hidden. We wouldn’t want them trailing us down.” I explained to them and tossed Seth one.

Smirking, Selena wrapped hers around her head as well in one fluid motion. “Now, let’s go kick some vampire ass.”

“Can we kill them now?” Selena whined.

For some reason, we hadn’t seen any vampires until a good fifty miles away from the apartment. We’d walked the whole way until we came up to an open farm area. I hoped we’d be dealing with one to get info out of him, but there were eight of them. I might be good at fighting, but I’m smart enough to know that it would be a suicide mission if we took them all on. So, we’re waiting until some of them at least leave.

I leaned against the tractor and glanced at Selena. “Let’s just wait until some leave.”

“We can take them.” Seth said. “That way we’d prove to you what we can actually do.”

“If by proving yourself you mean dying, then be my guest.” I hissed at him.

He rolled his eyes.

“I’ll snipe a few to get them down for a couple of seconds and you guys sweep in and dagger them before they get up. That takes out a few, right?” Selena suggested.

I tried not to smile at her idea. I did love the thrill of being a little reckless. “That’s very true.”

“Seth!” Holden shouted from behind me.

I spun around to see Seth running out after the group of vampires. He had his gun and dagger in both hands. The vampires didn’t notice him at first, but as he got closer, they did. They were about to dash forward, but then stopped. I saw one of the vampires walk out from the group and realized who it was.
