First Love
Chapter nineteen
New York City Trip (Day seven)
Leia’s POV:
It was ten in the morning.I was reading my book –Airhead, by Meg Cabot- when the hotel phone rang.
“Hello?’ I said to the speaker, thinking Stacey was on the line. She’d been a great help the previous night.
“Hi, Leia,’ the person returned. My heart sank. Haydn.
“What do you want? I’m… packing,” I lied. I was actually done with packing a long while ago, but I really didn’t want to speak to Haydn.
“Please. Let me explain what happened last night,” he said helplessly.
“Explain what? How about starting with what you meant when you said you never loved me, huh?” I snarled.
“I didn’t mean it. I do love you,’ he defended.
“All right then. I love you so I guess I forgive you, Han,” my own voice turned soft.
“Honestly?” hope filled his voice.
“No. I didn’t mean it,” I snapped.
“Leia… Please…” he begged.
“Get this, Haydn. We have broken up. So build a bridge and get over it, because you caused this. I really do love you, but I’m better off without you. And I think we both know that,” I was blinking back tears as I said this.
“There’s got to be something I can do to make it up to you.”
“There isn’t. In life, some things can’t be forgotten and the person can’t be forgiven. You can’t take it back or erase it. This is one of them,” I told him.
“Leia, please! I’d even give my life for you.”
“Don’t do anything crazy,” I said, alarmed.
“People do crazy things when they’re in love,” he quotedMegarafrom the Disney Hercules movie.
“No, Haydn. I’m sorry. Goodbye.”
I hung up.
And then I let the tears pour.
I cried for at least fiftenn minutes, before there was a knock on the door.
“Coming!” I called, hastily wiping my tears.
Predictably, I saw Haydn’s remorseful face when I opened the door. In one hand, he held roses. In the other, a read heart-shaped box –filled with chocolates, no doubt- with the words ‘Leia, I’m sorry’ written on the cover with a black sharpie. Anyone walking past this scene would’ve been touched. Sadly, I wasn’t one of them.
“Leia, I know I made a huge mistake. But I’m willing to do anything to have you by my side again,” he announced.
“That’s where you’re wrong. Not only did you make out with Ciara, you also told me you never loved me,” I replied coldly.
“ Take these, I’m begging you,” he thrust the presents towards me.
“I can’t,” I croaked, shaking my head.
