First Love

Chapter twenty-eight

Haydn's POV:

"Hey guys," I called to Luke, Stacey, Michael and Rachel.

This was followed by a chorus of 'hi's and 'hey's.

We were at the hall of the hotel where we would have our Themed Dance. Nothing too spectacular, since more of the kids would be coming dressed in costumes, not gowns and tuxes. It was more like an early Halloween dance.

Just some last minutes plans and checks for later. We weren't the only one's there by any chance. There was the rest of the Dance Committee, that's for one. And there was the DJ and people helping put up the decorations.

"We have to be quick, because Rachel and I still have to get Leia and then three of need to go for our appointments," Stacey reminded. It was really early in the morning. Girls and their crazy beauty regiments.

I nodded and we set to work.

"So what time again?" Michael asked.

"Seven-thirty," I answered.

"Okay, Haydn, I'm just curious. Did you prepare a speech with a script and all?" Rachel said.

I felt my cheeks turn slightly pink. "Yeah. I did. Everything has to go just right. And I don't do impromptu well."

Luke smirked. "Someone's really got it bad for my sister."

"Awww," the girls cooed.

I shrugged, because I do. I have it bad for Leia.

After an hour, we were done.

I went back home and since the dance was hours away, I decided to spend it like any other Saturday.

About three hours to the dance, I changed out of what I was wearing, put on a white singlet, jeans and a leather jacket. Then I tried to tease my hair the way John Travolta did in Grease.

I hopped into my car (my very own Porche for my eighteenth birthday, the least my parents could do since they weren't even around to celebrate my birthday with me) and went to a jewelry store to pick up something I ordered to give to Leia.

Finally, the dance.

Leia's POV:

"Oh my gosh! My hair is huge!" I exclaimed, looking in the mirror. My hair. The last touch for me to look like Sandy. I had to do it last because wearing my clothes after would've destroyed my hair. My hands reached for my head.

"Don't touch," my hairstylist, Jo, ordered, slapping my hands away.

"Sorry, Jo. But you did an amazing job. It looks unreal!"

Stacey stepped out from the changing room. She looked adorable in her purple dress, green scarf and pink pantyhose. Her hair had been dyed with one of those non-permanent dyes. She looked like Sarah Michelle Gellar when she acted as Daphne. Maybe Luke looked like Freddie Prinze Jr.

"Tada!" she said.

"You look gorgeous," I told her.

"Thanks. You look so cool. Where's Rachel?"

"I'm here!" she replied, coming out of another changing room.

She and Michael had decided to portray Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann from Pirates of Caribbean.

Rachel wore pirate themed clothes like Keira Knightly and her chestnut brown hair was all messy and ruffled up.

"Wow, you guys look awesome," she commented.

"You too!" Stacey and I said in unison. We giggled.

I felt like a fifth wheel. The five of us were in the limo and I was squashed in the middle. Luke and Stacey looked so cute, but Luke doesn't really look like Freddie Prinze Jr. Michael and Rachel were adorable and he's a pretty good Orlando Bloom.

Anyway, what with these couples flirting and making out, I felt like a sore thumb.

When we finally got to our destination I practically jumped out of the car.

The dance was pretty awkward. For me, in any case. I was just lingering around. It seemed like I was the only senior who went stag.

I took my third cup of punch. Well, when you're alone and standing by the punch bowl, there's not much to do.

Ciara came, laughing with her date. I recognised him as one of the footballers.

She immediately stopped laughing when she saw me.

Then realising I was alone, she smirked.

"Aww, Han Solo not around to dance? Too bad, Leia."

I ignored her, not wanting to het angry and cause a scene.

"Not responding, huh? Scared? It's funny, if you ask me. You had Haydn, but doesn't want you anymore. And you kissed Micah, but he's with that Raquel girl. You repel guys left, right and centre, don't you? You're a slut," she said.

She was getting on my nerves, and anger was building, but I didn't answer.

"Can't say much about your brother, either. Nicolette had fulfill her... pleasures with other guys. And I bet Haylee's pretty similar. Mitchell is plain stupid and Rachel'll dump him soon. Your life is just sad. Your BFF is a cheat, your brother is a failure, his best friend's an idiot and you're a slut who steals boyfriends. How do ya like me now?"

That was it. Nobody dissed my friends.

"I think you're the slut, Ciara. You stole my boyfriend. You're the failure. You have to put others down to make yourself feel better. You definitely cheated on someone and you're an idiot for making a dig at my friends," I said, standing up for myself.

In the spur of the moment, I tipped the contents of my cup on Ciara.

"You could surely use a sweetening," I said cattily, walking away.

As I walked away, chuckling, the music stopped and Haydn stepped on stage.

A spotlight shined on me.

Oh, crap.
