8 - Cosplays Are Magic

So it's fucking October.

Time for spookiness! Wow.

This year, Blake and I are going as Harry Potter characters. I'm going as Hermione Granger and he's going as Draco Malfoy. Because Dramione. I was thinking of going as Princess Leia and him as Han Solo, but he says its too common, and he doesn't like Star Wars. "But I love Star Wars!" I argued. "You haven't even seen the first episode and skipped to the sixth!" He said, pulling out a black coat from his closet one night. "What's his house again?" He asked, pulling a green and white scarf, and then pulling a red and gold scarf. "Slytherin." I answered. "Color?" "Green."

"Oh my gosh! You two look absolutely adorable!" My mom said, taking out her Instax Mini. She was in her mid 20's, so she stuck in the 21st century just right. "Smile for the camera," so we smiled, raising our wands. "Done," my mom said, giggling to herself. I took the picture from her hands and smiled to myself.

I was smiling so wide, and wow, my Hermione wig was on point. Blake was looking good as Draco, and my contacts that I let him borrow was looking good on him.

"Come on, Allie. Let's go!"

When we got to school, the whole school had colorful lights from the inside that reflected from the outside, and loud music was blaring through the speakers. Chaperones were there too, guarding the students and doors of the school.

When we got inside, we shook hands and said hellos to people we knew. After that, we were all partying like crazy. Then later, they announced the winners. We voted for our two friends Lilia & Parker, since they both dressed up as Cinderella & Prince Charming. After voting, we were anxious for the winners. I noticed one of our friends got up on the stage, cleared his throat, and said, "Now, to the moment you've all been waiting for! The winners of the Cosplays Are Magic contest! Thank you dickhead Bryan for the title too, by the way."

"Anyway, I'll announce the winners! There are three places, the first, the second, the third. Prizes are announced later, and— oh come on, why bother? The third place winner is..."

Drum roll.

"Adeline Meyer & John Wolff! As the Sleeping Beauty & Prince Phillip!"

Everyone clapped and cheered. I saw a Sleeping Beauty & a Prince Phillip costume run on the stage. They jumped up and down. "Freshmen..?" Julien, my friend, asked. I nodded. "And the second place goes to..."

Drum roll.

"Lilia Pritchard & Parker Smith! As Cinderella and Prince Charming!" Our whole table cheered for them as they stood up, hand in hand, then walked towards the stage.

"And the first place goes to..."

Drum roll.

"Allie Thomson & Blake Padilla! As Hermione Granger & Draco Malfoy!" My eyes widened in surprise. "Oh my gosh. Seriously?!" I muttered as Blake pulled me up. We went straight to the stage. "Congrats you two! I didn't know you two'd win."  Lilia said, kissing my cheek. "I know. I didn't expect you two to win!" I said, a smile creeping up my lips.

"Okay, the first prize will be, mhm. One whole month without homework, damn, I should've went with Allie, Free lunch for the whole month too, and free periods on your designated subjects. Second prize will be, one week without homework, a week for free lunch, and that's it. Third prize will be, two days without homework, two days for free lunch. Hope you enjoy your prizes, and wear this lanyard ALWAYS so that everyone will know that you're the winners."

He handed us pink and blue lanyards and we wore them around our necks.
Then we danced.

Just like prom all over again.
