Save Me

Chapter 18

Surprise

{Ofelia's Pov}

Ian and I drove for a coupe more minutes until I noticed that this isn't the way back home.

"Ian, this isn't the way home." I said worriedly. He smirked and looked at me.

"Holy Shit! You're going to murder me! Or rape me, or something! Please don't rape me! Not again!" I shouted covering my eyes with my hands. I was trembling in my seat.

"No no no! I'm taking you out for a surprise! I'm not going to hurt you! I'd never hurt you!" He said panicked. I uncovered my eyes and looked at Ian. His face was covered with concern. I wiped away the tears that were brimming my eyes.

"Sorry..." I mumbled into the sleeve of my sweater. The light purple turned into a dark purple under my tears.

"You don't have to be sorry. You can't help it. I shouldn't have scared you." He said facing the road. I nodded my head and looked down into my lap.

"So, where are you taking me?" I asked cheerfully, turning back into my usual self. Ian chuckled and looked at me.

"That's for me to know and-"

"You to find out. I know, I know. You're no fun." I said cutting him off and pouting. The whole car ride was full of us talking and singing to the radio.

"What are you staring at?" I asked the boy that was staring at me in shock.

"Wow," was all he could say.

"Whaaaaaaat?" I whined.

"You're an amazing singer!" He said and smiled. I was blushing madly.

"T-thanks." I said. Ian chuckled at my nervousness. I looked out the window. My face scrunched up in confusion. I watched as we parked on the street near a huge park full of lush trees and finely trimmed grass. Children were running about and couples were having picnics. In the middle of the park was a fairly sized pond. Ducklings swam behind their parents. Fish bobbed up and back into the water, causing ripples to form. It was beautiful.

"Ian-" I turned to my left to face him but got cut off as he held something out in his hand. I gave yet another confused look.

"Open it." He said smiling as he handed me the Walmart shopping bag. I hesitantly opened the bag. My face lit up as I pulled out a beautiful summer dress. It was a light green, strapless dress that would fall just above my knees. White lace covered the chest. Below the chest, where the lace stopped, elegant flowers were neatly sewn in thin white thread. The flowers trailed around my body but only stayed right below my chest. The plain light green skirt feel neatly in my hands.

"Ian, it's-"

"There's more." He said as he watched me look into the bag. I pulled out a pair of white flats that had light green flowers printed onto the side. I pulled out one last box. The box was very small and fit into the palm of my hand. I gave Ian a questioning look. His smile just grew bigger. I opened the box, only to reveal a beautiful silver chain. The chain seemed so thin and delicate. Though, what was hanging off of the chain was even more beautiful. The sunlight shining into the car reflected off of the small silver heart. The small charm was smaller than my finger nail, yet so beautiful.

"Surprise..." Ian whispered as I held the necklace in between us. I looked at Ian with a stupid grin plastered on my face.

"Ian, it's beautiful..." I breathed. "Thank you." I leaned forward and hugged Ian with everything in my heart. I warm tear rolled down my cheek. I released Ian from the hug and worry washed over his face.

"What's wrong? Aren't you happy?" He raised his hand to wipe away the few tears that had fallen. I nodded my head. Ian looked confused. Before he could speak I cut him off.

"It's just... no one has ever done anything this sweet for me before." I sniffled as I shifted in my seat.

"But weren't you asked out by every boy in school? One of them had to be nice."

"I rejected all of them. I didn't have my first boyfriend until I was nineteen. My whole life, I've only had four boyfriends. None of them would ever be this kind." I stated truthfully. Well, Anthony was actually the best boyfriend I've ever had.

"Well, I bet they were all blind. To ignore someone like you is impossible."

"Wow, thanks so much, Ian." I said and then laughed. I caught a glimpse at Ian and saw something. His eyes, something in them sparked. They looked... hopeful?

"So... should we start this day, or what?" I asked cheerfully. Ian happily nodded his head and we exited the car. I held the necklace tightly in the palm of my hand, making sure to never let it go.
