It was 1 year ago. In April. We were both in the same park, at the same time. I was looking around, he was looking around too. I stood on a deep green field, alone. He was daydreaming, looking at the pale blue sky, no clouds suspended in the air. Just the bright sky. The sun started to set, there was a bright orange colour, blended with a salmon pink shade, it was beautiful. Anyway I started heading home. As I headed towards the car park, I saw him. He leaned on his car boot. I turned my head slightly in his direction, and turned it back quickly. I started to search in my purse, I realized I forgot my phone. So I turned back towards the park gate, and started to speed walk.
But I caught glimpse of it lying on the cold hard ground. I ran to pick it up. Hopefully the screen isn't broken I thought. I knelt beside it, to turn the screen over. And to my surprise it wasn't broken. I sighed in relief. I dropped it safely in my purse, and picked myself up, off the damp ground. I took a step. Suddenly though I lost my balance . I unwillingly leaned to far back. I was ready to break my fall, putting my arms on my back. I shut my eyes tight. I thought I landed, but I felt something soft holding my back. I tilted my head to look at my back. I couldn't believe it.
There were soft hands on my shoulder. And I suddenly heard a warm calming voice, it said
"Oh my god, are you ok?"
I rubbed my eyes, feeling very confused. A pair of hands pushed me back up.
I properly looked at this person who saved me from breaking my back. My eyes were blurry, but it looked like the boy leaning on his car boot. My eyes adjusted a bit, and then I saw him clearly;
His black scruffy hair; his deep green eyes; his pale white skin.
I then remembered he asked me a question, and I finally respond
" oh, yeah thanks. I am ok"
"Are you sure?" He instantly responds.
"Yeah, positive" I said straight to his face.
"I thought I wouldn't be able to catch you, are you sure you are ok?"
"Yes don't worry about me" I reassured him.
" Anyway, thanks for catching me" I smiled at him. He smiled back with his stunning white teeth.
He let go of me. I stood on my feet now, realizing I was stepping on his feet.
"Oh sorry, I just realized I was stepping on your feet" I said idiotically.
"It's ok, all I could think about was how beautiful you are" he responded.
I blushed. " thank you" I replied to his compliment.
He cleared his voice. "Oh, do you want to grab something to eat maybe?" He asked.
I looked left and right, I was outstanded. "Wait are you asking me?"
He said back
"Who else would I be asking?" He sounded just as surprised as me.
"Yeah, ok. I would love to"
"Great" he smiled at me
"Where do you wanna go?" I asked him.
"I don't mind, what about you?" He curiously asked me.
"How about an ice cream?" I answered his question.
"That's a good idea, let's go"
We started to walk. Down the street, where there was an ice cream parlour. We walked quietly down the street, nobody said a word.
I thought, this is starting to get awkward. Suddenly he asked me
"So what flavours do you like?" He wondered
" I like strawberry,Nutella and creme. What about you?" I questioned him the same thing back.
"I like creme and yogurt flavours"
We were standing outside the small ice cream shop. We stepped in, walking towards the front desk. He told me
" Oh, you go first" so I did.
"I'd like a strawberry,Nutella and creme ice cream,please"
The shopkeeper asked me
" cone or bowl?"
I answered "cone please"
The shopkeeper picked up an ice cream scoop, dumped it in water and scooped strawberry first, then Nutella and last creme. He handed it to me.
I grabbed it and thanked him.
" that costs $13" he told me
Out of nowhere,
"I'll pay for her" said the guy next to me.
"Oh no, you don't have to do that"
"It's my pleasure" he replied.
I smiled at him. And once again he smiled back at me. I could see my reflection in his eyes.
He then said " I'd like an ice cream with yogurt and creme . With a Bowl thanks" he said to the shopkeeper without even facing him.
In a dash the shopkeeper said " That's $10"
This time he turned to pay. He took out his wallet from his pocket, to open it.
He took out $30 and handed them to the shopkeeper.
"Keep the change" he encouraged.
We walked out. We saw a bench. To sit down. I licked my ice cream. So did he.
So we just sat there staring into the sunset.
Watching the sun go down. If was the perfect moment. No one could take it away from us.
