Chapter Seven
Leena P.O.V.
It had been several days and there had been no sign of Chase. The authorities figured he probably went into hiding somewhere and didn't plan on coming out any time soon. My brothers had to get back to their lives and since nothing unexpected was happening at Northwestern, they went back home. I could tell that Reed was relieved. He'd been so great, putting up with their antics, that I felt like he deserved a reward. Before Josie's pregnancy announcement, I might have taken his reward to the bedroom, but that scared the shit out me, so I baked him cookies instead.
I still couldn't believe that Josie was pregnant. Tiny, ball-busting, sassy Josie was going to be a mother. That was some scary shit and it was enough to scare me away from sex, at least for the time being. Blake's black eye had mostly healed, but his relationship with Josh had been strained. Apparently, Josh could overlook the fact that Blake was screwing his sister, since they were two consensual adults. However, since the unthinkable happened and Blake knocked her up, Josh was pissed. I understood his anger. Josie just turned nineteen yesterday. She wasn't ready to be a mom, but ready or not, a kid was coming. She still had, at least, three more years of college before she could earn a degree and I had no idea how she planned on doing that, with a baby on her hip.
I shook my head at the situation and quickened my pace. I was going to be late for class if I didn't quit woolgathering. I was only about ten steps away from the finance building when I felt something hard jab into my back and an arm was thrown around my neck. I screeched in surprise, but felt whatever it was at my back, press in even further. I heard a hiss in my ear, "If you scream, I will shoot you."
Shit, Chase. He had come to Northwestern after all. Damn it, I did not want to admit that my brothers were right. I glanced around, hoping that someone would notice my predicament, but it didn't seem like anyone was paying attention. If anyone did look at us, it would probably just look like Chase was giving me an awkward embrace.
He guided me toward the parking lot and I knew that I was in deep trouble. If he managed to get me into a car, then it wouldn't bode well for me. I needed to act and I needed to do it soon. I fake-tripped in the middle of the parking lot and we both stumbled forward, all the while I prayed the gun he held didn't go off. The gun dislodged from its place, where it had been practically embedded into my spine, and dropped to the ground. My eyes widened when I saw that it wasn't a gun, but just a flash light. Without further thought, I broke into a run and began screaming my head off, for help.
My feeling of success was short lived, as I felt Chase yank me back by the shirt. Then, the next thing I knew, I was being shoved into the backseat of a car. He slammed the door shut and I instantly tried the handle, but it was locked. I should have crawled over the seat and tried to get out the front, but by the then it was too late and he was behind the wheel. He started the engine and tore out of the parking lot, ignoring my screaming protests as I pounding my fists against the window, praying someone would hear or see me.
When we were on the interstate, I slumped back against the seat, feeling defeated. Chase chuckled, "It's about time you gave up."
"Where are you taking me? Why did you take me?" I asked, exhausted and trying not to think about what this meant for my wellbeing.
"I took you, because I couldn't get to Maddie." Chase spat. "I've tried, but that stupid dude is always with her. Who the fuck is he anyway? He's got red hair for fuck's sake."
He was talking about Josh. So he must have been stalking Maddie for days, in order to know about him. I debated about remaining quiet and not giving him any information, but I could see the longer I kept my silence, the redder his face became and I didn't want him to lose his cool and wreck on the interstate. I sighed, "He's a friend."
