Chapter Eight
Reed P.O.V.
"What do you mean someone took Leena?" I yelled into the phone, at the same time I grabbed my car keys and headed for the door. I'd been waiting, in Leena's bedroom, for her to return after class, when Sam called. Apparently, Sam had been walking Melissa to class when they heard someone screaming. They'd glanced over and noticed a girl, struggling to get away from some guy. Sam had recognized Leena instantly, had told Melissa to call the police, and had run for his car. Sam had followed, at a safe distance, and was now waiting for further instruction, outside some remote cabin.
Sam pleaded, "Dude, just get here. The guy dragged Leena inside and it definitely wasn't willingly. I'm afraid to know what is happening inside. I'm also afraid to just storm to rescue her, because what if the guy snaps and slits her throat or something. I can't have that on my conscience. Take the interstate, south, until you reach exit 134. You'll see a gas station, take the dirt road behind that and it'll practically run right into the cabin, a couple miles down that road. Once you hit dirt, come in slow, so you won't alert him."
I got behind the wheel of my truck and was about to drive away, when the passenger door opened and Josh and Maddie got inside. I frowned at them, "What are you guys doing?"
Josh supplied, "The way you tore out of the apartment, we knew something bad happened. We're here to help with whatever it is."
I didn't have time to argue with them, so I simply put the truck in gear and tore away from the dorms. I spoke into the phone, "What does the guy look like?"
"Tallish, athletic, and has dirty blond hair. He wore non-descriptive jeans and a gray t-shirt. He wore a Philadelphia Flyers cap on his head." Sam provided.
"Fuck...ok, I know who has her. Call the police and tell them that Chase Thompson has taken Leena Davis hostage." I instructed and heard Maddie gasp, but I ignored her and continued, "I'm on my way. Try to get close to the cabin, to see what is happening. If he's touching her, in any way, I don't care what you have to do, but get her out of there. I'll be there as soon as I can. Call the police first, Sam, and thanks."
"Got it." Sam said before he disconnected.
I slowly breathed in, held it, and slowly breathed out. I did this several times, trying to calm my racing heart. If Chase lay one finger on Leena, I was going to personally kill him. The police would just have to take me to prison for murder. I became aware of soft sobbing coming from next to me and glanced over to see Maddie was crying and Josh was attempting to comfort her. I didn't know what to do or say, so I just kept driving. I followed Sam's instructions and, thank God, there was exit 134. A few minutes later, I cut the engine as we rolled to a stop a ways from a small cabin. Leena was in there and I had only one goal, get her out safely. I'd deal with Chase once I knew Leena was safe.
"What's your plan?" Josh asked.
I glanced around, but didn't see Sam, only his car. What was my plan? "I have no idea. I just need to get her out of there."
Josh nodded, "I'm with you. All the way. Whatever you want to do."
"I'm going in there." Maddie stated, speaking for the first time since she got into the truck.
"Abso-fucking-lutely not." Josh stated.
"I agree with Josh. You're not going in there. He's hurt you before. He could do it again." I told her.
Maddie shook her head, "I don't think you understand. I have to go in there. Leena is in this mess because of me. That's not only my cousin in there. That is my best friend. That is the one person who has always stuck by me, besides my parents. That is the person who I tell all of my secrets to. That is the person I've protected my whole life and I'm not about to stop doing that now that shit got real. I. Am. Going. In."
