"Avery wake up! wake up! we'll be late for school!!!" My step-sister, Ava, pestered.
I stretched in my bed and looked at the clock, it said 4:45. I groaned, "we have an hour until seminary begins, Ava-" I began.
"We have to get ready though! it's our first day of school, and we can't go there looking like monsters!" Ava replied, she got out my brush, "now get up so we can do each other's hair."
"Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine" I grumbled, I sat up so that Ava could brush my long dirty blonde hair.
we were both fifteen turning sixteen, and it looked like we were twins, since we both had blonde hair and blue eyes. the only differences we had really was our parentage and personality. My dad died when I was thirteen leaving my ma stranded with an eighteen year-old son, a thirteen year-old daughter, a nine year-old son, and a five year-old son. My ma had only married my step-dad a few months till we had to move to Mesa, Arizona due to my step-dad losing his job in Saint George, Utah. Ava and I had been pretty sad moving from one school to the other, but at least we still had each other.
"owch." I muttered when Ava got into a knot.
"Sorry... I keep forgetting you have a sensitive scalp." Ava said.
"it's ok." I mumbled, I was so tired I could barely stay up right, I decided to start a conversation going, "So do you know what Mesa High's like?" I asked.
"I heard it's pretty good, though I haven't been there myself, and just remember, I heard that three years ago... Last I've heard about them is that they're really pushy and there's a lot of cussing." She shivered, so did I.
our last school had plenty swearing, but this school was probably going to be a totally different problem.
"hopefully the seminary is okay." I said, turning around so I could do Ava's hair.
"Yeah..." She answered.
there was a knock at the door, and we turned our heads, "yes?" I called.
my-no, our- ma poked her head through the door, "Mind if I come in?" she asked, softly, so not to wake up the boys who were the next door to me and Ava's room.
"Yeah." Ava and I said at the same time.
ma came in and sat at the edge of my bed, "You girls excited for school?"
we shrugged, "Sure, I guess." I said glumly.
"just say a prayer that you will have a good time at school. and hopefully you have a great time." ma told us, then kissed our foreheads, "have a good time, I'm going to work, make sure you make lunch. oh! and I made you girls breakfast, just don't tell the boys." she winked at us and, when we nodded, left the room.
We stayed silent for a while.
"There!" I said, finishing Ava's hair.
We got dressed, then went upstairs to the kitchen. As ma promised, there was our favorite breakfast, Pancakes with peanut butter chocolate chips, on the table. We quickly ate and went back to the basement to our room and did our makeup. by the time we were done, it was 5:15, we got our backpacks ready, cheer bags, and scriptures, and phones, then headed out the door.
