I went back to the edge later that night. That's where I saw him. That's where he saw me.
I don't know why I went back, I just felt I needed to. I felt the dying Tree calling me for help. It comes with being a Unicorn. The land feels like your foals, so in a way I am a mother to many things.
I followed the Tree's sap smell all the way to the edge. I hesitated at first, but I put one hoof and then the other over what was left of Herd land. I quickened my pace until I realized I was too close to the human camp.
I walked into the camp and quickly found the tree. I bowed and touched the tip of my horn to the shiny sap. I wanted to watch the last bit of life bleed out of the tree but I remembered where I was. A sudden jolt of fear hit me as I noticed the sleeping horses around me.
I spotted a good-enough hiding place; a tall bush that was at the end of the camp. I ran to it as quietly as I could and hid behind it, peeking around the side. I could still see most parts of the camp clearly but out of fear of being caught I moved even further back, into herd land again. I once again hid behind a bush, but left more of my body exposed. I hoped that the night shadows would hide my figure.
I felt the gaze of something and turned around. I flinched when I saw a horse staring at me. I couldn't help but stare back for a few seconds; he was so interesting. I though I heard him say something, it sounded like "The most beautiful thing I've ever seen..." but I wasn't sure.
So I ran. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me and then I ran even faster. I heard his calls for me to stop, but I didn't. I went all the way around their camp before I realized he had almost caught up to me. I poured on the speed, the wind whipping through my mane.
I got halfway into herd territory before I turned around. He was gone, thank goodness.
I was breathing heavily so I didn't hear him approach me.
"Luna, where were you?"
None other than Hylzarie.
