Chapter 5

Jamie’s POV

As the bitter wind picked up outside, I was getting ready to kill Talia. When she had told me we were going to have a Girls Night, I was expected staying in with a pizza and some movies. I certainly wasn’t planning on spending my night standing in line to get into a club that we had a slim chance of getting into.

I rubbed my hands together, trying to warm myself up. “Talia, how much longer do we have to stand out here before you realize we aren’t getting in?” I stuttered, trying to stop my teeth from chattering.

“And when will you get it through your head that we are not leaving? Besides, let’s just say I have some connections with the bouncer,” she smiled, giving a little nod towards the front of the line.

Considering the fact that this club was practically brand new, I wasn’t even going to ask how she managed to get connections so quickly.

“Fine, I’ll let you have this one. But next time, can you at least check the weather so I don’t end up freezing my ass off?” I yelled above the blaring music penetrating through the club walls.

Talia laughed and held a hand up to her ear, signaling she couldn’t hear what I was saying. I rolled my eyes as she turned away to “join” the conversation going on behind her, knowing that was her way of saying she was ignoring my request.

I shivered again and tried distracting myself by looking around and taking in the atmosphere. I could see a group of girls up ahead, nervously giggling and pulling on the hems of their dresses. It was obvious that they were underage and definitely new at the whole fake ID concept. Unfortunately, thanks to Talia, I had nearly mastered the art of fake IDs and could tell that these girls had virtually no chance of getting in tonight. Sure enough, as the group approached the front door, there were almost immediately shooed away by the burly bouncer.

I glanced at my watch and much to my disappointment, noticed that only 3 minutes had passed. I tapped my foot impatiently and looked at the long line ahead of me.

“Talia, this is ridiculous. I know you have your “connections” but I’m freezing and can’t wait here any longer,” I pulled her away from her conversation.

Talia faced me and put her hands on her hips. “Seriously Jamie, I thought you had more faith in me. I’m extremely offended,” she dramatically stated. “Hold on one sec,” she held her hand up to signal that should would be right back. With that, she quickly darted underneath the velvet rope that contained the people in line. I watched her make her way up to the bouncer and lean in to whisper something to him. He gave her a small nod and she gave him a small smile before heading back towards me.

“We’re in,” she smugly stated, before grabbing my arm and dragging me out of the line and up to the front. I could hear people all around yelling protests and profanities; obviously pissed we didn’t have to wait any longer to get in.

Talia and I stood in front of the rather intimidating bouncer, as he looked us over. He gave a small grunt and shoved us through the set of double doors leading into the club.

Before I had even made it through the door, I was hit with an overpowering smell of alcohol and sweat. The techno club music was ringing in my ears and fluorescent multi-colored lights were bouncing off the walls. Directly in front of me was a large dance floor with a DJ booth, and I could see dozens of people laughing their drunken heads off while grinding up against random dancers.
