Heather's POV:

"Alright, let's just cut to the chase here now.

My name is Heather, I'm 17, and I'm looking to go to Utah Valley University. That college had my eyes open once I first saw it. I just really want to go to college there. It's where my mind has been set for a while now. My mother went there, so that's my plan.

My ex also went to school there, and he's influenced my decision so much. I wouldn't really be thinking about college at all if it weren't for him.

I toured the school a while back and I absolutely loved it. Everything about it is great. I can't believe I never noticed it until my mom brought it up when I was 14. After that day I've been wanting to go there. I just can't take my eyes off of your school and I'd really like to go there. Thank you so much for this interview!"

Everything was clear in my mind. I knew exactly what I wanted to say. I had practiced my little speech on and on again in the mirror for a while. Going to UVU was my mother's dream, along as it is mine. She told me so much about the school and booked me an interview with one of the professors. He was in town for the weekend with family and made time to see me. I was stoked! I still am stoked!

Today is the day I am going to win over that professor and get into college! I can't believe it!

"Are you ready to go hun?" I heard my mother calling from downstairs.

"I'll be down in a second!" I finished applying the last touch to my mascara and skipped down the steps.

Waiting at the bottom was my mother. She was wearing the same old pj's as normal, with her brown locks in a raggedy mess. Her makeup was smeared down her cheeks. I could tell that she had been crying again.

After my dad had left due to work complications, my mom had been a mess. He still sent us money and letters all the time for support, but it wasn't working for my mom. She just wants to be with him again. I try not to bring it up to her.

"Are you all ready for the big day, my love?" I could see a smile come up from her tear ridden face.

"Of course I am! I'm so excited!" I could hear the eagerness in my own voice.

"Are you sure you want to go out with your hair looking like..." Her voice trailed off. Maybe my caramel locks fallen down over one shoulder didn't do it.

"I could throw it in a bun if you'd like?"

"Sounds great! Oh my darling you will absolutely love the school I hope you get in!" My mothers excitement made my heart warm up. After seeing her so depressed, having her be excited makes me feel at peace. That's why I need to get in to this school. Making my mom proud is all I want.

I threw my hair into a messy but formal-ish bun and walked out the door. I strut over to my small grey car and clicked the unlock button on my key-chain. My sandals and yellow floral dress made me look like I was ready for summer time, but it was actually fall. It was the neatest thing I could find in my closet.

The seat belt locked as I pulled it over my shoulder, so I had to take the time to fix that. Once I did, I switched the gear to reverse and backed out of the driveway. Then, I was on my way.
