Part 4: We're Not Perfect

Shocker, right? Who would've thought that we make our own mistakes. I believe the thought that we think we're perfect and that maybe others do too, stems from the fact that people think we live to tell others what they're doing wrong. I have to admit, I have a passion for correcting others (why I'm going into editing), but I often keep my corrections of your grammar to myself. Another shocker! A Grammar Nazi who doesn't spend her entire day making others feel bad about their use of words. By now, if you haven't fainted, you just might live through this chapter!

If you're still assuming we are perfect or that we think ourselves to be perfect, well, you'd be wrong. Allow me to let you in on a secret: As hard as we try to be perfect, we're often far from it. I have my days where I am constantly struggling to find the word I'm looking for or just a better word than what I have. A website called word hippo has helped me with this, as I can keep entering words like what I'm looking for until I find what I need. It's a lifesaver, really; I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I hate to admit that other times, I forget words exist. It happens sometimes. Normally with common words. I've looked at the most common words and found myself thinking "What is that?", only to come to the realization that I desperately need sleep because I've lost it. But it happens, more than we English Majors would care to admit. Specifically when it's late and we're tired. Or when we've been reading/writing/or just looking at the screen for far too long. Sometimes we even misspell words... okay, maybe a little more often than sometimes.

We English Majors truly are the imperfect perfectionists. Especially those of us who are Grammar Nazis.

Sincerely,

A frustrated aspiring editor, Elaura_B

A/N

Hello! Hope everyone is ready for the upcoming year! I know I am. Only a semester remaining and I'll officially be done with high school and ready for college. Not that I don't already feel like I'm in college with one college class under my belt and taking three more next semester. Hopefully, that means I'll have more time available for if anyone wants a story edited. That's right, I'm saying it again, and I'll continue to ask you all if you're interested. Let me know! Until then, have a good New Years Eve tomorrow.
