Upon arriving our destination, a beautiful Wedding Hall, we were put straight to work. Besides saying salaam to the early guests, we also helped out with the decorations.

"Maira where did you put the red bouquet?" I asked

"Wasn't it on the stage?"

"No I can't find it."

Just then Arzoo walks in, "HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT? THEY HAVE THE CUTEST GUESTBOOK AND THERES EVEN A SILVER SHARPIE THAT YOU CAN-"

"WOAH WATCH OUT!" I shout but it was too late. Down went Arzoo, and the bags of Wedding favors we had yet to pass out onto the tables.

"Looks like you need some help." Akbar said smirking at Arzoo. He offered his hand to help her up.

Arzoo scowled at him and stood up and brushed off her red Anarkali dress.

"I don't need YOUR help." Arzoo scoffed. She started to pick up the wedding favors and put them back into the basket in her arms.

"Well someone is salty..."

And then she growled at him.

Yes, GROWLED at him.

"From many years of observing this rare species, I can now predict that: *pushes up glasses* Arzoo no like you." Maira said while pretending to poke a stick at Arzoo.

"Besides, why are YOU here?" Arzoo said.

"Well I thought you guys would need help so I came over to-"

"Uh uh uh, Akbar WHAT are you doing?" Yousef said while shaking his head and approaching us.

"Yousef? I was just here to help-"

"HELP? And that to the GROOM'S side?"

"Hey!" Arzoo said while putting her hands to her hips.

"Sorry ladies, but weddings are no joke. Weddings are time for WAR."

"What? What are you- OHHHHH."

Yousef nods, and Akbar smiles at us apologetically. "Sorry girls, I gotta go, but maybe when you'll need help one day I'll be there at your service, good day." He says while bowing.

"Don't fret, we won't need your help." Arzoo said.

"Arzoo!" Maira said, "He's just trying to be nice!"

"Excuse Arzoo, she isn't always rude like this." I say as I bump her shoulder to shush her.

"Well I'll catch up with you guys later." Akbar said.

"They're definitely planning something." I say once they leave.

"Its for the shoes I bet!" Arzoo spoke.

Reminded of the shoes, I tell them the plan Wali had texted me.

"Oooooo smaaaart." said Maira.

Who does Yousef think he is? He can take the shoes... OVER MY DEAD BODY. One thing he said did appeal to me, weddings ARE time for war. He just wasn't about to walk away with victory.

By now most of family was here but Aiza was still at the beauty parlor being dolled up and Wali took his seat on the stage.

"Lets go take a squad pic with Wali!" Arzoo suggests.

"No gang signs this time, I mean it Arzoo." Maira said trying to smother her smile.

Arzoo then looked at her seriously, and said dramatically, "There will ALWAYS be time for gang signs."

Ama rushed over to me holding a flower girl basket.

"Shano beta there should be a table with flower baskets on it near the main door. Could you put this one there too? I forgot to put it there."

"Sure thing Ama." I say taking ahold of the basket.

Ama turns around just about to greet another guest, but I stop her.

"And Ama?"

She turns around.

"Did Aba see you yet? Cause he might just faint when he does."

She laughs and then straightens up and says "Shano go."

"Amaaaa I'm just giving you a compliment."

She laughs again and kisses my forehead before letting me put the basket away.

Arzoo, Maira, and I were assigned to be flower girls along with some other girls.

The color of Baraats were most of the time red. Aiza's lengha was going to be red and we decided the flower petals should be red too. So of course, we went with rose petals.

I walk down the steps and it seems like no one was downstairs. Most of the guests were upstairs making conversation and chatting up with relatives.

Where was the table? I couldn't find it. Ama said it was supposed to be near the front entrance. Oh there it is! Now I just have to-

I knocked into something and the basket flew from my hands. After realizing it was hands grasping my arms to keep me from falling I realized it was a someone, not a something. And when I looked into the eyes of that someone, not only did time stop but my world itself stopped.

Yousef stood before me looking into my eyes worriedly. The flower petals fell upon us and I saw not the past but just him.

Neither one of us could break out of the trance. Or maybe, the back of my brain whispered, neither one of us wanted to.
