The Secret Life of Troy

Chapter Eight: Escape

               Saturn and I waited until night to plan the escape. I dozed off when we were waiting, then I woke up to a noise. "Troy, wake up!" whispered Saturn "It's time." I immediatley opened my eyes. I wanted to escape too. I was frightened of the wolves. Saturn started walking slowly and hiding behind things. I followed him. I could'nt crawl like he does, so I stood up on my hind legs and hunched my back. We hid behind rocks, crystals, even other wolves! It was really hard to hide behind the sleeping wolves because they could wake up any minute. We were hiding from the elders: Saturn's mom, dad, uncle, and aunt. Saturn told me that they are very light sleepers. We hid and moved forward.

                 Finally we found the entrance of the cave. There were Saturn's aunt and uncle sleeping there. There were no other wolves, rocks, or crystals there so we couldn't hide. We walked quietly and slowly near the entrance. Suddenly we saw a wolf approaching the entrance. We ran as fast as we can back to Saturn's room. We didn't think at all. We just didn't want to get caught. When we thought there was no one close enough to hear us, we started talking. "Shoot!" Saturn said. "We were so close." "Why did we come back here when we could have ran off from where most of the wolves were and hid behind a rock?" I asked myself out loud. We sat in silence then Saturn said "Well, I'm going to try again." I followed his lead.

                We went a different way than we went before. Saturn called it the shortcut but it seemed longer than what we took before. There were less wolves around and more rocks, and crystals. We were less cautious but still we were really quiet. We kept hiding and hiding until we got bored. Nothing was happening so we took a risk by not hiding. We just kept walking and walking. Then we started whispering. "Saturn" I asked, "How long is this way?" "Umm, I think we have 10 minutes more of a walk until we see the back entrance" replied Saturn. So we walked and walked more. I kept staring at the colorful Stalagmites and Stalagtites. They were transparent shades of blue and purple. I started slowing down. Then after a few minutes, I stopped and walked closer to one crystal. It was mesmerizing. It was a light shade of blue at the bottom, and a dark shade of purple at the top. In the middle it was blended. "Troy, come on" Saturn whispered. I snapped out of my trance and continued walking.        

                      At last, we reached the back entrance. It was very small compared to the other entrance. We quickly walked out of the hole and went into the forest. We ran as fast as we could away from the cave. When we thought we were far enough we shouted and screamed with joy. "We made it!" we both screamed. We started running through the forest. We played hide and seek with each other. I would usually not be found because I am smaller. Then we played tag. Saturn would always get me because he is faster. After a while we took a break. Then we started walking and picking fruits for us to eat. We stopped and ate then continued walking. After an hour or two of playing and eating, we stopped at a cliff. The end of the forest. The beginning of the city.
