Alexis

I had magic powers. So did Zach. All the doubtsI had about everything going on had suddenly faded away, along with everythingaround me. At first I couldn't tell if my eyes were open or if I was dead.Zach's bike exploded after he blew up the cars and he didn't make a sound as weflew through the air, while I remember screaming as I hit the ground and cryinglike a baby. I finally knew my eyes were open when I saw the blue and purpleflames of the fire surging around me.

I had landed on my side and I couldn'ttell if I had broken my arm or not. I slowly lifted my head seeing nothing butthe flames. The air was smoky, but I could breathe fairly well. A normal personwould've been dead by now with all the smoke in my lungs and fire that hadscorched my body. But I guess I wasn't a normal person.

"Alexis," I heard arough voice.

I turned my head andZach was coming towards me.

"You're alive," I letout a sigh of relief.

"Neither of us will befor much longer if we don't hurry. C'mon," he reached down and grabbed both ofmy hands pulling me up.

"Follow me," He startedwalking towards the lake.

All of the sudden a loudexplosion bursted for the second time behind us and we both fell to the ground again. I turned myhead and looked back. The fire was now probably twenty feet and was picking upspeed as it came towards us. I looked at Zach who was slightly in front of meand he gave me a scared look. We both scrambled to our feet and startedsprinting. The closer we got to the lake, the faster the fire started moving. You would think that since we were the Sun God's chosen ones the fire wouldlike us right?

We ran until we could feel the water splash under our feet.

"Ok, we're connected tothe water," I said.

"Give me your hands."Zach stuck both of his out.

I was going to ask whysince that wasn't a part of the directions we had received but I decided thatwould be a waste of time. I grabbed his hands and we looked into each other'seyes. He gave me a nod telling me it was time.

"Alesa Morenav," We bothsaid.

Nothing happened.

"Alesa Morenav! AlesaMorenav! What? It didn't work! Zach why didn't it work?!" I was panicking and Icould feel more tears roll down my face.

"I don't know, just calmdown," His face was covered in soot from the fire, yet he still looked like anangel.

"Maybe we need to go outinto the middle of the lake. That seems logical anyway," He looked out onto thelake.

"Zach it's pitch blackout here. How are we supposed to know when we get to the middle? I don't thinkwe can swim fast enough to stay away from the fire," I said looking back at thefire which was probably fifteen feet away.

"The very middle of thelake is one of the most shallow parts. It's only two feet deep, I can get usout there," He said.

"How?" I furrowed myeyebrows.

"Grab on," He motioned towardshis waist.

I stepped closer to himand wrapped my arms tightly around his waist. I put my face into the fabric ofhis shirt and closed my eyes. His body went tense like he was rock solid and thenI felt him bend his knees.

I felt a gust of wind slamdown on my head and I opened my eyes. It may have been dark but I could tell wewere up in mid air. I knew we weren't flying. If we could fly I think Iwould've lost my mind. It was just like all those vampires in the movies, Zach could jump. Wewere going back down when Zach told me to bend my knees. We landed so hard that water landed all the way up on my face.
I let go of him andgrabbed his hands.

"Ready?" he looked atme.

"Not at all," I lookedback towards the fire which was creeping into the water.

He gave me one lastunreadable look and the words slipped out of our mouths. We both gripped eachother's hands tighter and I felt that chill that the book gave me, run throughmy body. But this time it wasn't cold. It felt like the fire that Zach hadunleashed. I thought maybe I was just imagining it but I could feel the sweatform on both of our palms. Then I felt a lump fall in my stomach like I wasabout to throw up. I opened my eyes and looked at Zach when he opened his.

"D-do you feel that?" Mystomach jumped and it made me bend over a little from the pressure.

"Yeah. That's not normalis it?" he asked, his body twitching.

"No. I don't think so,"I shook my head.

Then the pain grewthrough my entire upper body. Zach and I both cringed at the pain and I bentdown at my waist.

"Oh my god. It hurts. What's going-?" Then I screamed.

Zach screamed too. Weboth threw our heads back to the sky and screamed. I had been in pain before, Ihad screamed out of pain before, but this was something different. It was likemy heart had exploded, I had died in the most brutal way one could. My eyeswere closed but I could see something bright above me. As much as I wanted toopen my eyes, my painful screaming wouldn't let me. More hot tears rolled downmy face.

I was ready to just fall into the deepest part of this lake andgive up.
