Steven P.O.V.

~Connie and I were sitting on the beach eating peanut butter jelly sandwiches. I was deep in thought when Connie had to raise her voice to interrupt my thoughts. "Steven!"

~I blinked a few times before I looked up at Connie. "Sorry, what were you saying." Connie sighed and stopped eating. "Steven you've been like this since Homeworld blew up, why?" Connie looked at me with serious confusion. "Nobody's been the same since Homeworld blew up.." I trailed off, not knowing whether I should tell Connie how mentally corrupted the gems became. "What do you mean? How did they change?" Now I knew I couldn't hold it back anymore.

~"Pearl is smoking, Garnet is never fused anymore and Ruby and Sapphire are constantly fighting, and Amethyst is always gone with Vidalia and being depressed!!!" I burst into tears unable to hold back the long overdue pain I hid from everyone. Connie gasped, "Why? Your mission was to protect Earth and you did it!" Connie pointed out, hugging me tightly. "I think i-it's because we have nothing else to do, nothing else to live for. Once we sent the cluster egg to Homeworld and destroyed it, I guess that was it for us. No more missions, adventures, no more need to fuse or like each other." I replied, choking every now and then.

~Connie just hugged me tighter. I knew she was speechless, I was too, I didn't think I would ever tell Connie, or anyone for that matter.

{Time Skip to Night}

~I walked home from the beach, always looking back, wanting Connie to be with me. The last thing I wanted was to go back home to the silent hell. It has been a year of living like this; I turned 15 a week ago and that was the worst day of my life.

-flashback-

~Pearl had walked into the living room, smoking as usual. "Hey killer. How does it feel, you know, having your birthday the same day you killed your mom." I was laying on my bed so I turned over to hide the tears I couldn't hold back. "Everybody wishes Rose was back, since the day you were born we ALL wished for Rose to come back." Pearl finished and disappeared with her cigarette into the entrance of what used to be her beautiful room.

~Amethyst came in and ignored all life forms that was around her. She grabbed a plate of long overdue molded cake and threw it at me. The plate hit the wall and shattered to pieces while the cake smashed and stuck to the wall. "Happy Birthday life ruiner. Hope you have a lovely day." Amethyst said coldly before walking our.

~Ruby and Sapphire were nowhere to be found even. Tears had rolled down my cheeks and drenched the pillow I laid on. That night I had smuggled alcohol that I couldn't bring myself to drink.

~I clenched my gemstone as I tried to drink the toxic liquid, but something inside me made me repellent to the drink.

-end-

~Tears escaped my pathetic eyes and I wiped them away. I was on the porch of the house I used to call home. I sighed and pulled open the door.

~The house was dark and empty. The usual emptiness. I walked in and decided to go to my- Rose Quartz's room I corrected to myself.

~I stopped considering Rose my mom after what Pearl had said. The thought of the life I had unintentional taken devastated me deeply. I knew it wasn't my fault, but that couldn't change the regret I had for being born.

~I looked Rose Quartz's room and saw Pearl in it. I silently walked in and heard the sound of sobs generating from Pearl. I walked up behind Pearl, who still had no idea of my presence, and awkwardly set a comforting hand on her shoulder.

~Pearl jumped and turned around quickly, instantly rejecting my comforting hand. Pearl's eyes that once gave off an innocent, beautiful, independent feeling, now had nothing but coldness. "Steven!" Pearl got up and spat.

~"How long have you been here?!" "Not long." I looked shyly at her. "Well," Pearl wiped her tears away and regained her usual, horrible, self.

~Pearl pulled out a smoke and lit it. I stared at its intoxicating smoke. "You know those can give you..." "Nothing, Steven. Real gems," Pearl glared at me and emphasized the word 'real' to get under my skin, "Real gems can't get Cancer, STD or any of that shit Steven, so back off." Pearl sucked on the cigarette before letting out all the smoke she had inhaled.

~I dropped my head low with disappointment and hopelessness. "Well you can go make yourself useful Steven, and go buy me another pack of cigarettes." Pearl threw a ten dollar bill at me with a few cents. I clenched my fists hard and coldly replied, "No."

~"What was that?" Pearl angrily questioned. I angrily got up in Pearl's face and poked her with my index finger hard. "I said no you pathetic piece of worthless trash! All you do is sit around, drink, and smoke! I have kept your pathetic, new scum lives hidden from those who idled you, but No MoRE!" I glared into Pearl's eyes and looked for a hint of fear, guilt, EMOTION, but that was not to be found, never again. I walked off and poofed a door to the outside world the held fresh air, away from the smoke invested room.

~Tears fled down my cheeks and I choked on the pain of trying to hold them back. I looked down at my pink gemstone and saw the usual cracks in it. The cracks have been there since the family broke apart. I ran my fingers over the gemstone and felt every little crack, when suddenly I heard a crack from my gem. I cringed in pain and removed my hand to see a huge crack in the middle of the gem. I shook my head and more tears fled down my cheeks.

~I can't believe I ever idled that pathetic gem!!!
