I slowly open my eyes as I hear the alarm ring. Today was the first day of school and I was petrified. Maddie ran out of bed and stopped the annoying beeping.
"Ok you guys, get up. Get dressed and stuff." I said getting out of bed and stretching. As soon as I said that the other five girls got up and picked their outfits. Hi, my name is Gabriella and I live in an orphanage. There's only six girls that live here (including myself). There's me, Maddie, Ashly, Mackenzie, Zelda, and Belle. I'm the oldest girl in the orphanage so I'm kind of a bigger sister to all the girls. Don't get me wrong, I love all the girls, but I have a soft spot for Belle. Today's her first day of kindergarten (making her the youngest) and I'm so excited to walk her to school. Maddie is in 2nd grade, Ashly is in 3rd grade, Zelda is in 5th grade, and Mackenzie is in 8th grade. I mostly get in fights with Mackenzie since she's the second oldest out of us. Today I am officially a Sophomore in high school. Yikes. I decided to wear my black Fall Out Boy shirt with some blue skinny jeans. I grabbed the outfit and went to the bathroom and dressed. While I was in the bathroom, I took out my braid, brushed my chocolate brown hair, brushed my teeth, and splashed some water on my face. I slipped on my combat boots and put my backpack on my back.
"Gabby! Gabby! Zip my jacket up? Please?!" Belle whined.
"Oh why of course I would, my lady." I giggled. I zipped up her big pink fluffy jacket and patted her head. I turned around to be faced with Mackenzie.
"Sup...Gabriella." She hissed.
"Sup...dummy." I replied, slightly pushing her head. She scoffed and walked away with Zelda. Mackenzie had her long blonde hair down and wore a pink shirt with black jeans. Zelda had her brown hair in a tight ponytail and had a red jacket on and, classic Zelda, had a pair of sweat pants on. Zelda didn't care, but Mackenzie pinned her down about it. She would say it's,'Not pretty,' or,'Sweats aren't even in anymore.' I encouraged Zelda to wear whatever she liked, but Mackenzie had a very different opinion about the subject. Ashly was standing by the door with Maddie. Ashley's dark black hair was in a Dutch braid as she wore a long pink dress. Maddie wore a black shirt and a white long skirt with her red hair in a bun while Ms. White (who owns the orphanage) unlocked the door and let us out. She waved and said goodbye to us and went inside. I walked the girls to their schools and started to walk to my high school. I was walking in peace until a familiar voice called my name.
"Gabriella! Gabriella! Wait up!" Yelled Luke, running my way. Luke has been my friends since 8th grade. Luke has a lot of really bad friends who get into drugs and shit, but he never does that. He couldn't. He's too sweet. Luke and I have always shared our secrets, but he does not know that I live in an orphanage. Every time we hang out, it's at his house. His parents are so sweet and so nice. No one at school knows I live at an orphanage either. They would totally make fun of me, so I keep it to me, myself, and I.
"Hey Luke. Ready for the first day of school?" I asked.
"I'm about to shit bricks!" Luke said kicking a pebble on the ground. I giggled and showed him my schedule. We have math, lunch, and science together. We kept walking till we were at school. Luke opened the door for me and we walked in together. Me and Luke walked around, finding our classes here and there. Luke saw some of his,'cool,' friends and did one of those bro hug things. That happens for a while, until the bell rang. After about two minutes of searching I found my classroom and walked in. I noticed a couple people from my classes last year and waved at them. The bell rang and we all sat down and the teacher introduced herself and blah blah blah. It was now 5th period; lunch. I walked in the cafeteria and saw Luke sitting down at a table with one of those,'cool,' guys. He grew a smile on his face as I sat down.
"Ugh. How's it goin?" I asked Luke. Luke shrugged and sighed. I nodded my head in agreement and ate the lunch I packed. Luke's friend left a couple seconds after I sat down.
"Wanna listen to All Time Low?" Luke asked, holding one earbud.
"Sure." I said, blushing, taking one of the earbuds out of his hand. We listened to All Time Low all period long until the bell rang. Next we had math together, so we walked there and sat down next to each other. It was actually really fun! The teacher is funny and started telling us stories about her weird life experiences. Before we knew it, it was 7th period. Luke and I walked to Science and the teacher gave us a worksheet about volcanoes that wasn't due until Friday. The bell finally rang and the first day of school was over. Luke and I walked out of the school. We were walking home in peace when he, all of a sudden, he stopped walking and looked at me.
"What?" I asked knitting my eyebrows together.
"I just realized...I've never been to your house." Luke replied.
"Oh...my house? Don't worry, it's not important; nothing happens there" I said, looking down.
"Gabby. Don't lie. Why haven't I've been to your house before?" Luke asked putting his hand on my shoulder. I just shrugged and he sighed.
"Let me come over. Right now. If...that's ok, you know, with your parents." Luke said.
"If you want...I guess." I sighed. We walked in silence until we reached my orphanage. I started walking towards the doors until Luke yelled my name.
"Why are we at the orphanage?" He asked confused.
"Well...this is my home." I replied, slowly. Luke looked kind of scared and regretful, but he was chill about going inside. I walked inside with Luke and Lindsey (mrs. Whites assistant) glanced up at us from the front desk.
"Hi Gabriella! How was school?" Lindsey asked, sitting up in her chair.
"It was cool. Um, Lindsey, this is Luke and I was wondering if we could use the spare room to study." I said. Luke waved at her and Lindsey nodded her head. She winked at me, but I shook it off. I really hope she doesn't think we're gonna make out or anything. I walked in the room I shared with five other girls, for the door to the spare room is in there. Zelda and Mackenzie were playing with Barbie dolls, Maddie was reading some magazines, Ashly was painting her nails pink, and Belle was dressing her little baby doll I got her for her birthday. When we walked in, the girls twirled their head in our direction.
"Hey guys, this is Luke and we're gonna be in the back studying so Yall know where to find me." I said to everyone.
"Ooooh Gabriella has a boyfriend!" Mackenzie yelled jumping up and down on the bed. Luke smirked. God...that smirk was so damn cute. Mackenzie sat down on the bed and I pushed her off. She fell on the floor, but she wasn't hurt.
"Gabby. Gabby we need to talk." Belle said with her puppy big eyes.
"Ok Belle. Hey Luke, just go through that door and you'll be in the study room." Luke nodded his head and went inside the study room.
"Gabby...your not replacing me with Luke, are you?" Belle asked, clutching her baby doll to her chest.
"No! No, no, no Belle. How could I ever replace you?! Your so funny and cute and pretty! I bet all those boys in kindergarten have a crush on you!" I told Belle, tickling her belly. She giggled and kissed my nose. I kissed her nose back and left the girls to play. I walked into the studying room and Luke was looking at me.
"What?" I asked.
"You love them." Luke said smiling.
"Yeah...they can get on my nerves, but their my only family." I replied looking through the window at my sisters playing.
"You never told me you lived at the orphanage." Luke said knitting his eyebrows together in confusion.
"I never told anyone. The people at school would totally pick on me. You can't tell anyone! If people found out...I would die." I said pleading Luke. Luke swore he wouldn't tell anyone and we began to study. I was reading the rules of our upcoming project when Luke started to talk.
"Hey I'm having a party at my house tomorrow. My parents are in Oregon for my aunts wedding and it's gonna be epic...wanna go?" Luke asked.
"I don't know..." I replied looking at the ground. Luke lifted my chin with his finger.
"I would be so happy if you came. We would have such a great time." He said. I gave in, and nodded my head yes. The rest of the day, I was thinking of what I was going to wear and what the party was going to be like. I was also scared...this neighborhood has some bad kids and Luke is friends with them. Let's hope for the best and hope there's no fights.
