Like I promised! I much longer chapter this one is. And I know the ending scene is really cheesy. Forgive me but I had to add it in. I am switching POVs in this one a bit too. Don't worry, I warn you who it is. Anyway I hope you like it.
**********************************************************************************Chapter 22:
Katherine
The next morning when Katherine woke up her head was still in a daze from the day before. It had actually been one of the best days of her life and she hated that the day had been so short. How was she supposed to enjoy each day if it could easily be her last one?
Gabriel kept saying that wasn’t how it was going to end, but she didn’t know what to believe anymore. In his eyes she could see there was something he wasn’t telling her, he thought he was hiding it so well but she saw right through him. There times when she wanted to question him on what this secret was, and then she would change her mind because she was scared of what the answer would be.
She knew that she had to end this war, sooner rather than later.
Katherine rolled onto her side, reaching out for her phone and checking the time. It read 10:00am and she praised the universe that it was Sunday.
Still, it was getting late into the day and she could smell the amazing aroma of pancakes downstairs. With that to motivate her she crawled out of bed and stumbled a little down the stairs. She sat on one of her kitchen stools and stared at Gabriel who was in front of the stove flipping what smelt to be blueberry pancakes. He turned around and grinned “Good morning gorgeous.”
“Those smell amazing...” She muttered sleepily, rubbing her eyes. Raising her hand she self consciously flattened down her hair and then put her head on her crossed arms.
Gabriel laughed and she felt his hand ruffle up her hair again “They better be, it took me three times to get the batter right.”
She lifted her head and stared “What?”
“Yeah...” He paused “That reminds me, we need more milk... and eggs.... baking powder would be good too.”
Katherine rubbed her face and said “Fine, I will go out and get some today.”
“That would probably be a good idea.” He replied cheerfully and then placed a plate of steaming pancakes down in front of her.
She picked up the fork and knife and began to butter them. She poured a little bit of maple syrup on them as well. Gabriel was watching her every move. Before she took a bite, she looked at him and said “Are you going to do a drum roll or something?”
“Do you want me to?”
She shrugged and the drum roll started. It took her a minute to put the piece of pancake in her mouth as a fit of giggles took over her actions. When they subsided she put the fork in her mouth and began to chew.
“Mmm.”She said grinning, for pancakes that had had to be remade a few times they were really good.
“Yeah?”
Katherine nodded enthusiastically. She wasn’t just saying that, they were incredible. All light and fluffy, the blueberries were perfect and gave a nice burst of flavour inside her moth. The syrup and butter only added to the already incredible flavour.
She finished hers as Gabriel sat down across from her with his. He smiled at her and said “So what are the plans for the day then?”
“Well I have to go shopping thanks to someone...” She replied giving him a pointed stare “You are free to do whatever it is you want.”
His eyes lit up at that, there was obviously something he wanted to do. And of course, he wasn’t going to tell her what that was.
“So it looks like that sounds good to you.” Katherine noted with a small laugh “Okay then, I guess I should just head out then and leave you to it. Have fun Gabriel.”
“Talk with you tonight okay Kat?” He called to her as she left the house.
“Damn right you will.” She muttered. Katherine planned to get the whole truth out of him tonight, no matter what it took. This angel wasn’t going to hide things from her any longer. This time he would tell her his secrets before billions of years passed.
Yes, Gabriel couldn’t hide this time. Whether he wanted to admit it or not he needed her.
“Just you wait Gabe. We will get through this together, just like before.” She said firmly getting into her car, “I am not going to lose you again.”
She shifted into gear and left the house.
