Three

How is it possible we fall for people with only knowing them for an hour or two? I don't think I'll ever understand that possibility we seem to posses. Love is a dangerous game and I was finally ready to play it again after what had happened three years ago.

"It seems like we're going to be stuck in this lift longer than I thought," He sighed, releasing me from his embrace. I began to think that being stuck with him wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

"More time to hide from reality," I whispered under my breath, sitting back down on the back wall.

"What are you trying to hide from?" He asked, this time sitting next to me rather than on the complete opposite wall.

"Life."

"Oh come on, my life is probably way crazier than yours."

"Probab--" My response was cut short by the elevators sudden fall downward. I gripped onto Harry and he did the same until we stopped moving. The lights flickered completely off and we were left sitting in total darkness. Harry pulled out his cell phone from the front pocket of his jeans and turned on the flashlight so we could have some light.

"Okay," he began. "They've either found us and are trying to get us out, or we're falling to our deaths."

"What's going to happen when we get out of here?" I questioned because I really didn't want to say goodbye yet. I know it was stupid of me to ask, he probably had a girlfriend or something on the outside, but I couldn't shake the feeling I got everytime he looked at me, as much as he annoyed me to no end.

"Well," he turned to look at me. "There will probably be reporters everywhere asking a whole slew of questions, there will be the fire department as well and probably my management team scolding me about not taking the blasted stairs like I usually do." He left me with the realization that there would never be an us after this, how could there be? I was just some girl from Michigan who moved away from all my problems rather than facing the shame that came along with them.

"Oh," I simply said, looking away from him, down into my lap. I never expected any of this to happen, but I was glad I had the chance to meet this guy.

Just as Harry was about to say something else, the door began to be pried open from the outside. A small crack allowed us to see the outside world once again and I was sure neither of us were too happy to be leaving yet.

For him, this was a place where he didn't have to worry about anyone recognizing him, a place where he could speak his mind and only one person would hear and wouldn't tell anyone.

For me, this was the place where I would meet my best friend, a place where I could escape my life for a little while, and a place where my life would change forever.

The only part of the crack which could actually be seen out of was a few inches at the top, allowing light to pour into our dimly lit space.

"Hello, is anyone in there?" A bold voice spoke, causing me to jump.

Harry's face lit up in smiles, causing me to shatter a little inside. 'He does want to leave,' I thought to myself. My arm was suddenly pulled upward, forcing me to stand up, adding to the slight pain in my chest.

"Yes, please help us." Harry called out.

"How many of you are there?" The voice asked.

"Just two, sir." I remained silent, unable to form coherent words in that moment.

Harry looked over at me, pure excitement had taken over his face. "C'mon, they're getting us out!"

The small crack opened into a wider opening, allowing me to see more of what was happening outside. Feet we're running about everywhere---mostly female, some belonging to men, and others in fireman boots. The elevator had appeared to be slightly below one of the floors but we could easily get out from the opening they had managed to clear.
