Steves POV
----------------------------------------

I was discharged two weeks later.
He never came. My mom put me in catholic school. Darry and Pony call every now and then. Ponyboy says Darry is up to something, I personally don't have a clue what it is.

It's lunch break now, my next class is religion- definitely a drag. I walked to my locker and grabbed the proper books and fixed my hair, these school uniforms definitely don't look tuff- how much was tuition for this place anyways. Jesus.

By the time I was ready the bell rang, and I was off to sit in my usual seat in the back. When I walked in I saw an all too familliar head of messy blonde hair talking to our teacher. I dashed to the empty row in the back and prayed - literally prayed he wouldn't notice me. I held my head low, but naturally half of the class was staring at my god damn eye again.

As soon as he looked for a seat we locked eyes...

I turned around to find a seat after introducing myself to the teacher, and locked eyes with- er, eye- with Steve.

It now clicked why Darry forced me back to school. He wants us to make up, so maybe if we do that I won't have to come to this hell hole anymore. I sat right beside him.

He sat beside me. I immediately tensed up like a rock, when I was able to calm myself I pulled out a sheet of paper.

I scribbled out a 'why are you here?' And slid it over to him. Eventually he wrote in his usual messy writing, one word. 'Darry.'

I gave up trying to talk to him and attempted to focus on the lesson, not that I've believed in god since Johnny and Dally.

When the ball rang the rest of the class got up and left immediately, Soda and I sat as still as statues, unsure of what to do. "I'm sorry, I was a jerk." I broke the 5 minutes of silence.

Did Steve just apologize? That's not in his nature.. "you were a jerk. And you weren't taking care of yourself." I tried to sound like I didn't care at all, but my heart was pounding and I could hear my pulse in my ears. I missed him so much.

"I'll make it up to you, I promise." I could feel his stare on my neck, the sensation quickly gave me goosebumps. "How are you gonna do that?" I glanced over in a nonchalant manner. "You, me, dinner, Friday night." His face was bright pink, and his eye resembled a deers in headlights.

"Did you just ask me out....?"

AN: Sorry it's so short and crappy. I've got so much going on in life, I'll try to write more often. Enjoy the cliffhanger.
