The next morning I woke up trying to be in the most positive mood I can be in "ok just breath, you can do this" I thought. "So step one respect my parents" I said flipping my pages through my diary. I sat there for a second, closed my eyes and just laughed. I was so content words can't even explain.

"Hurry up Gracie I don't want you to be late for school... again" called my mother. Trying to be on my best behaviour I got dressed and went down stairs.

"I'm ready mom" I awkwardly smiled

"Hmm you seem happier today?" she responded hooked onto my emotion.

"Is that a bad thing?"

"No it's great!" she jumped.

"Well I think I'm going to walk to school today" I said running out the door.

"I love you" she called. I froze for a moment holding my breath as my body stiffened like it was so hard and abnormal to say I love you.

"love you to mom" I looked down waiting for a response as I clenched my fists. I heard the delicate echo of my mother's voice being drilled into my ear.

"I know you do" she smiled

"Good morning everyone" said Mr. Lee our gym teacher.

"Good morning Mr. Lee" our classed responded all in synch.

"Before we run laps I would just like to remind everyone that this is your last chance to sign up for the swim team, Try outs are on Monday" Mr. Lee said making direct eye contact with me. Before Olivia died I was one of the best swimmers in my school, but it's been a while since I've swam. Step 7 fulfil your dream, I took a deep breath.

"Um Mr. Lee I'd like to sign up for swimming" I raised my hand.

"Great" he said handing me the signup sheet. As the kids around me started bickering.

"Ok everyone 7 laps get going we don't have all day" Mr. Lee said. We all started running as I heard loud footsteps approaching me from behind.

"Hey Grace!" called Ivy from behind me.

"What is it?" I said annoyed.

"Look!" she said laughing. I slowly stopped keeping in mind, step 4 stand up to bullies. I turned around staying confident as she lifted up a picture of me that she took the other day ago. I looked closer to notice the green stuff painted across my hair and the pencil case stuck to my hand with the words loser in big red letters across my head.

"Give me that!" I shrieked.

"And what if I don't?" she laughed. "Oh and by the way if I we're you I wouldn't try out for the swim team, I mean you're probably going to fail anyways" I looked down feeling hopeless as I sprinted the rest of the way.

"Is everything ok Gracie?" asked Mr. Lee.

"Yeah I'm fine, it's just that..." I was about to finish my sentence when the bell rang "never mind it's not important" I ran to the cafeteria. I knew I had to stand up to bullies but how was I supposed to, whenever I try to talk about it with an adult it just makes me feel like they're going to look at me poorly. It makes me feel like I'm admitting that I'm a pathetic loser.
