I swear I stop breathing. I can barely walk or see I'm so shocked. I run to Jason, where he's brushing his teeth and I literally fall on top of him.
"Why...what's wrong? What's happening? Are you okay?" He asks, startled.
"They're...they're coming for me. There are guards and they're coming for me." I wheeze out.
"We have to go. We have to be on the move. We can't let them see you. Dante will hold them for as long as he can. We have to get out of here. Okay, you pack our stuff in bags, and I'll go get Audrey." He says.
"But how did you kno-" I ask, confused.
"I'll explain later, I promise. But we have to go now." He says
He rushes out of the room grabbing a coat on the way out. I pack everything we need in two bags I found in the closet; clothes, toothbrushes, toothpaste; anything that we might need wherever Jason is planning to take us. Why does he know all this stuff?
Jason returns with Audrey at his side. He takes my hand and leads me out of the room. I see Dante there, about to knock on the door.
"Did you tell them she's here?" Jason asks, frantic
"No. But I did tell them that I would look for her, and that it would take a long time because she didn't check in." Dante says.
"Don't tell them anything. We have to get her to safety. Of all The Revolutions, she is by far the most important." Jason says, looking scared.
"You know I know. All the rebels do. There is a back exit right down where the stairs are. Go down the stairs as quietly as possible and I'll cover for you. Good luck." Dante says. And then he exits down the hallway.
We hurry down the the stairs. Jason presses his finger to his lips. Quiet. We go down the stairway, being as quiet as we possibly can. The. We hear the soldiers.
"We need to know if you have her, sir. If you will not tell us, we'll have no choice but to shot you." Says one of the guards.
"Sir, if I had her I would tell you. I promis-" Dante explains.
"We gave you five minutes. That's enough time to give her a plan of escape." The soldier replies.
"He doesn't matter." Says another, "Just shoot him."
We here the gunshot go off. I immediately cover my mouth and shut my eyes. I have tears streaming down my face.
"It's okay. He died for you." Jason whispers.
"That's the thing. He died for me. I'm not important." I whisper back, tears flooding down my face.
"Yes you are. Your the most important thing in the U.S right now. I'll tell you. Just wait." He says back
We walk out of the stairwell, creeping down the hallway. The guards have left to go upstairs and check the rooms. We take the exit and immediately start running. Jason motions for us to follow him. And we run for a while.
We end up walking for hours. It soon becomes night and Jason takes us to a store called La Moreau's Boutique. He knocks on the door franticly. A woman opens the door.
"Jason. Come in. Hurry" she says
"Ms. Moreau. I have The Revolution. We need a place to stay." Jason explains walking in with Audrey and I.
"Oh my word, it's The Revolution." Ms. Moreau says,"Follow me." She looks behind us to make sure no one is following.
She motions for us to follow her. She brings us the the basement.
"There is a secret exit behind the couch. Use it if the guards come. I'll be here to give you food and water three meals a day. I'll have dinner down in a bit. I think you may want to explain what is going on to everyone." Ms. Moreau exits the room and begins to make dinner.
I'm breathing extremely hard. Revolution. Me. Rebels. What is going on?
"You better start explaining" Audrey says, staring at Jason.
"You're right. I can't hold secrets from you guys anymore. Especially you." He's says, looking at me. "I lived on The East Side. It was around the time when The Rebels were defeated, well, people thought they were defeated. We weren't the people that did it the, the government did. All they want is control. Then your dad came along. He said he would go to The West Side, and be under cover. He took tons of people with him, including my parents, Dante, and Ms. Moreau. I was born here, but I've always been a rebel. That's why I know of these safe places and how I was able to get rooms when we were at the hotel." Jason explains,"Your father went into war, and married your mom. He was a spy for the rebels, and when the government found out, they killed him and said it was a freak accident. No one knew of him ever having a daughter, but when they did find out, they didn't think you had anything to do with anything. I was then put on orders to protect you and I ended up falling in love with you in the process."
"So, I'm what they're looking for. I'm the one that can turn against the government." I say, putting it all together.
"Yes. You have the genes in you. You're the one that can turn things around; who can make us the free country we were. You're The Revolution."
