Bright and early the next morning, Sam unlocked the green door and entered Bag-End for the first time since Frodo had left.

He began to tidy up, and after dusting the study and the main hall, he discovered an envelope tucked behind a small trinket atop the mantelpiece.  Samwise Gamgee was written on the outside in Frodo's neat script, and Sam opened the envelope, intrigued.

Inside was a letter that read:

My Dearest Samwise,
I pray that this letter finds you well, as I've no idea at what point in your life that you will receive it.
It is in my highest hopes that you will never have to read this because if you do, it means that I have left you and that is something that I hope I will never have to do.
I will state now that this letter is not edited, and will remain so because you deserve to read all that my heart pours out with the mere thought of leaving you.
I wish, with every fibre of my being, that I could be there with you at Bag End for the rest of my days. For that would be a paradise in itself.
I leave Bag-End and all it contains to you, dearest Sam, as I know that you are the only one who loves it enough to care for it the way it needs to be.
Bring Rosie and your beautiful children to live there, and show them all of the hidden wonders of that quaint hole.
I am beyond sorry that I have left you, so please know that I would not if I could have prevented it in any way. You are the other half of my heart, Samwise Gamgee, and what is a man without his other half.
We shall see one another again, that I am sure of. Whether before death or after, we will meet again, my love. Until then, I will await the day with an eager heart.
All my love, forever,
Frodo

As he finished reading, Sam let out a sob as tears streamed down his face.

Oh, there was nothing in the world that he wouldn't have given just to see his beautiful Master Frodo once more.
