I awake from the sun slicing through the window, letting the rays shine on my face. I attempt to go back to sleep, but it fails, leaving me in a cocooned position, the blankets wrapped around my entire body.

I roll off the bed, the blankets come along. I'm not ready for another day to pass in hiding. I lie like this for a while unwilling to get up, or to move.  I groan loudly as I untangle my helpless body from the covers, picking myself back up onto my feet.

I know I don't look the least bit presentable to enter into the human world, but I can't care less at the moment. I unlock the door, keeping it open as I stroll lazily down the hall towards the lobby. I can hear cheerful voices and laughter as I get closer. The smell of pastries fill the room. Everyone's heads turn to me as I enter the lobby, moving towards the breakfast counter. I grab a small muffin, keeping my head down.

"Abbi. Good morning." I hear Nadine's voice bounce off the walls and return to me. I quickly turn back towards the hall. I wave my hand high in the air as a hello gesture.

I walk into my room, Rory sits politely on my bed.

"I-" he cuts me off.

"I didn't break in. You left the door open." He lets out a cramped laugh. His smile is mesmerizing.

"What do you want?"  I try my best to keep a straight face.

"I have a surprise for you." He smiles in self admiration. I stare at him puzzled, and a little worried.

"What is it?" He chuckles.

"Well that would kind of ruin the surprise if I told you, wouldn't it?" I roll my eyes, not wanting to deal with his stubbornness.

"Whatever, I'll come, just give me a second." I put my childish hand on his chest, pushing him out the door. A shocked look appears on his face before I shut the door.

I find a hair brush in the top drawer of the bathroom vanity. It dig through the dresser as I brush through the thick knots of my weak hair. I find a short sleeved black shirt that looks about my size and a pair of baggy jeans. I throw the brush on the bed and slip my shoes on, grabbing my sweater.

Rory stands beside the door with his arms crossed.

"Are you finally ready?" I shove his shoulder.

"Shut up, I didn't take that long." He leads me to the lobby where he finds Nadine. Even the way he walks is unbelievably perfect, every move, every step comes together in one precise manner that drives me crazy.

He whispers something in her ear, watching me with keen eyes. She nods her head, but her expression is vague, unreadable. He follows her into the back room, where they disappear form sight. I stand quietly.

A boy not much older than me sits in a corner surrounded by people. He stares at me in outrage.

"So you're Abbi?" He chuckles. His grin suddenly makes me extremely uncomfortable. "I heard you're special," he stands up, now walking over to me. The people around him snicker. "Tell me, Abbi. Where are you going? Where is your boyfriend taking you?" I look away, only able to shrug. I want to say that it's not true, that he's not my boyfriend, but no words escape me. He's now awkwardly close.

"He's probably going to go turn her in." A girl's voice comes from the corner. The boy laughs, glaring down at me.

"Is that so? Well, I can't blame him." The boy pushes me up against a wooden beam, making the back of my head clash against it. He puts his hand over my mouth and nose, cutting off my oxygen. I let out muffled screams, clawing at his hand. Laughs echo from every part of the room. I fight for air, but the pressure continues to suffocate me. I finally stop fighting it, letting my body sink to the ground against the beam.
