"No, not like that." He holds his hands out. "Harder," the sun has finally come up.
"Rory," we've been out here all night long, without a wink of sleep, Rory and I, anyway. Jason lies on the grass, sleeping soundlessly. I suddenly have a strong urge to kick him.
"Do it, again." I have never met anyone so cranky due to drowsiness. I punch his hand with all my strength. My knuckles now cracked, bruised, and blistered.
"Good," I roll my eyes, spinning exhaustedly in a circle. "Now, do it like that ten more times." I groan. My body will soon collapse, unable to bear anymore. "Abbi," he says frustrated. I look away from him, turning my attention to Jason.
"Jason!" I kick the bottom of his shoe, a bit harder than I mean to. He awakes quickly from his peaceful sleep. "Get up!" He rises tiredly to his feet. Rory laughs. I hit his hands once more.
"Nope," Jason comes swiftly behind me. "Like this," I can feel his warm breath on my neck. I shiver.
He brings my elbows closer to my sides, bringing my forearms up more. His fingers move to my hands, everything inside of me turns to gel. He studies my painful knuckles intently. I can feel him looking at Rory.
"We're done." Rory crosses his arms, baffled.
"No, you can't-"
"Look at her! She's exhausted, and," he holds my hands up to him. His touch gives me goosebumps. "She's bleeding." Jason lightly puts my hands down, staying close behind me. "She's done." Rory glares at him, then at me.
"For now," His voice frightens me, his eyes. He picks up the small pistol from the grass, slowly wandering out of the field, heading back towards the city.
Once we make it back to the hotel, we're all half asleep, barely awake, if at all.
The building gets us out of the frigid wind, warming me from top, to bottom. The lobby is completely empty.
"Abigail," I cringe at the sound of Nadine's voice. "May I speak with you?" I watch as Jason and Rory walk drowsily down the hall.
I turn around, hoping that if I move slowly, she may not notice me anymore than she already has. She walks hastily towards me, her hands folded nicely.
"I know that after what happened yesterday, and our first conversation, you may not trust anyone here."
"That's not true," she raises her eyebrows. "I trust Rory," she chuckles, amused. Somewhere inside of me immediately fills with fear.
"Are you absolutely sure?" I nod nervously.
"Yes, I trust him...with my life." Her laughter gets louder.
"I wouldn't say that, it might just become a reality." The fear rises higher.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I snap. She silently shrugs.
"I'm just saying, you should get to know a person better before you decide to trust them with your life," I breathe faster. "Don't you agree?" Every word she says is like venom being spat out at me, and it burns like fire.
"I don't know," I turn away from her as quickly as I can, dashing down the hallway.
"Sleep well." She laughs. "And remember, you can come to me with anything."
My door is already unlocked, and is ajar. I slowly make my way inside. My mind goes to Jack, he could've broken in, and is now waiting for me to finish what he meant to do.
