The Sandbox Locket part 5:
(Luna's POV)
I kick my now ex-boyfriend Noah in his tenders, and he howls in pain, slumping down onto the floor. I had been planning on breaking up with that jerk for weeks, but he had been in France and I didn't have the heart to do it over the phone.
I run towards the Payne house, and Karen informs me that Liam left "in a huffy" a few minutes ago. I thank her briskly and peel away in my sports car.
I have no idea where to find Liam, but I think I remember where he went one time as a child to cry.
When Liam's turtle died when he was 4, both of our families went to a nearby pond to mourn. I remember this very clearly, as Liam hugged me and wouldn't let go.
It starts to rain. "Greatttt this is the last thing I need right now," I mutter. When I get to the pond and hop out of my car, Liam is sitting on a bench, staring emotionlessly at the ripples caused by the downpour. I don't think he even realizes I'm there until I take both of his hands in mine and lay my head on his chest.
When he jerks away, saying, "NOW what do you want?" I quickly explain.
"Liam, you have to believe that I love you. I truly do. That jerk Noah has been taking advantage of me for a whole year, and I was going to break up with him a few months ago. But he was out of town and--"
"You know what, Luna? I feel like my whole life has been a chase of cat and mouse. You lead me on, I tell you I love you, and you run away. If you actually love me, then show--"
I interrupt him by pushing him over onto the bench. The rain has just stopped and there is now a double rainbow in the sky. Liam rolls on top of me and we kiss passionately, stripping our clothes until all that remain are my bra and undies and his boxers. He begins to kiss me everywhere, no doubt leaving hickeys, and I am about to pull down his boxers when I hear, "mummy? What are those people doing?"
I start to giggle helplessly. A little blonde toddler is pointing at us in confusion as his parents look at us in disgust. Thankfully, they don't seem to recognize Liam. We dress quickly and leave his car there, speeding away to the nearest hotel.
