Then she burst out laughing. Ayumi and Wataru looked at each other confused. Yuna shook from the laughter and held her stomach.
"You two are really awesome!" She wiped away a tear. "A Yakuza." The girl bawled on.
"That's not funny, Yuna-chan.", protested Wataru.
"It is."
"No. Really not." Ayumi nodded seriously.
"Come on. You can't be serious." Both nodded imploringly. "That's stupid. Just because someone is showing his gun, that doesn't make him a Yakuza."
"He's behaved suspiciously."
"So if I point my gun at you, I'm a Yakuza too?"
"You have a gun?" Ayumi appeared to be shocked.
Did she still have one? Where was her Beretta? She had no weapons on herself when she woke up at Kitsune's place. Probably Yoshiro did disarm her for all cases, so no one would be hurt.
"No." Yuna noticed that she perhaps should keep her mouth shut about these kind of things. "My uncle is a good man. He won't hurt people."
Wataru said nothing, but this renewed, curious phrase he remarked.
"Maybe you are wrong, Yuna-chan. He acts nice with you, but not with others." Ayumi definitely had her opinion formed.
"Let it go, A-chan."
"Wata ..."
"It's enough. Maybe we really made a mistake. Please forgive us, Yuna-chan."
"No problem." The girl picked her chopsticks up again and fought on with her dinner.
Ayumi sought eye contact with Wataru, who ignored her. "Do you smell so strange?", he asked instead.
Yuna swallowed. "Yes."
"Then Ayumi will take you washing and bathing afterward, then you go back to bed."
The blue-haired looked pissed off. "Are you going to command me around all the time now, or what?"
"Your uncle gave me clear instructions to look after you, and I'd rather not disappoint his expectations. If you please just could play along and do as we say, okay?"
The high school student sighed. "Okay. I'll behave."
"Thank you."
Ayumi began to clear the empty dishes. Wataru joined her. Behind Yuna's back they put the dishes into the sink.
"What are you doing?", she hissed and peered over her shoulder to Yuna.
"I'm trying to pull our heads out of this sling. If we just do as he told us, we might get away without any trouble."
"Or he kills us afterwards."
"Come on, Ayumi-chan. Yuna is okay, right? Maybe he really is just a little overprotective."
"Someone who binds his children's shoes until middle age is overprotective. Or who spies on them. Threatening their caregivers with death, is not overprotective!"
"You're such a drama queen."
"I'm sorry that I prefer to stay alive!"
Yuna had to laugh inwardly. Did they really believe that Yoshiro was a Yakuza? Well, she could use that to her advantage. And perhaps some of the strange things the life of an Onihunter brought along, could be explained in this way.
"You are aware of the fact, that I can hear you two, right?" Both tensed up.
"Sorry."
"We're really sorry, Yuna-chan."
Yuna turned to them. "He will not harm you, calm down."
"How can you be so sure?" Ayumi looked really distraught.
"As long as I tell him that I'm satisfied with you, he will not hurt you. You are under my protection. He has a code of honor."
"I can't believe it." Ayumi ran the water to wash the dishes.
"Do we have your word?" Wataru leaned against the stove and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Yes. I swear. He will do what I tell him to."
"That has to suffice."
Yuna rose from the table and brought over the rest of the dishes. "The Yakuza are not inhuman, if you help them, they help you."
"I hope so. For both of us.", groaned Ayumi.
"Ayumi-chan, please go prepare the bath for Yuna. I'll finish here."
"Okay, Wata-kun." The redhead left the kitchen.
Yuna was on train to follow her roommate, when she was held back by Wataru. "What?"
"Yuna-chan, is this the reason your family was murdered?"
The girl looked at him confused. "What do you mean?"
"Was your father also a Yakuza? Were you attacked by an enemy faction?"
She looked at him long. He had delivered her a good idea, but she first had to make up a story, so that she was prepared for all kind of questions. To tell parts of the story now, could make it harder to create a credible narrative later.
"I don't want to talk about it."
"Stop playing games! Be honest with me. Maybe this can come back at us and put us in danger."
"Shut up."
"I believe that your uncle hides you. He's probably not even your real uncle, but a sworn follower of your father. Maybe you're the heiress for a high post the other members would rather see in their possession."
The girl blinked. "You definitely watch too many movies, Wataru-san."
"Yuna-chan, please!"
She sighed. "And if it were so?"
"Then they are looking for you and want to kill you."
"I will not be harmed."
"How can you know?"
"I can take good care of myself."
Wataru looked at the bandage over her right eye and the bandaged hand. "Yeah, sure."
"Are you done?"
"For now."
"Good." Yuna left the kitchen and went to the bathroom.
