Chapter 5

The bed creaked underneath him as he sat down. He didn’t know what to do next. The money was gone, almost all of their stuff was stolen, and CeCe had ran outside to god knows where, and he was there, all alone.

He was used to that feeling of being alone. Not knowing who you could really trust; feeling left behind, abandoned, even his own parents couldn’t make him feel comforted when he needed it. He was all alone. He was always so different from his family, no one could understand him. His friends didn’t understand him and why he did the things he wanted to do the things he did, and the girl he likes just walked out the door, but not before leaving a hand mark on his face.

Anthony Vayne Trail,’ he said to himself, ‘you fucked up.’

He couldn’t remember how long he sat there just thinking. All he knew was that he was broke, alone and hurt. Hours could’ve gone by, days, months, years even, and he wouldn’t have known. It just felt like forever that’s all he knew.

Soon, something in him clicked. He rose up, grabbed the bags, put everything where it needed to be and walked out the kicked down door. As he stepped on it he felt the door knob shift on the floor and he stepped on it and the door underneath his feet wobbled and he walked off the door.

He walked out carrying the bags. One in his left hand and the other slung over his shoulder. He walked around the building and turned out by the sidewalk and saw CeCe was sitting on a bus bench by the curb. He walked over and sat down a few inches away from her. He handed to her the bag that had her stuff in that she brought. She looked at him.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Giving up. I’m going home. You were right all along it never was going to work out. I don’t know why I was so foolish enough to actually think that this would work. I ruined everything and I never should’ve brought you into this.”

“It was my life to screw up not yours. Somehow ill find a way to get your money back if I have to work for it every day when we get home, but I’ll pay you back. Once we get back you never have to talk to me again if you want.” He finished.

He had no idea what happened next all he knew was that he didn’t want it to stop. CeCe had gotten up and smashed her lips against his and kissed him.

Their lips became locked in embrace and it was warm and welcoming and everything he wanted. He felt pleasure in it. Passion, something he longed for and finally gotten from her.

She pulled away.

“You will pay me back, but we’re not leaving yet. I overreacted. You have had a hard time and I need to respect that. We will find her because this is what you want more than anything. I’m willing to do anything for you Tony.” She said looking at him.

“But our stuff and money-,” she cut off his sentence by kissing him again.

“We’ll find a way to do it all ok? Trust me.” And he did. He trusted her more than anything because right now she was all he had.

They stood there for what felt like a million years. The wind blew hard making the grass around them dance around their feet. The air tasted sweet and salty like the ocean they were near and you could hear the silence and grasshoppers chirping away. Finally, CeCe blinked.

“What now?” she asked.

He thought over her words for a moment. He thought over their situation and tried to figure out what to do now. An idea struck him.

“We can just get jobs.” He said triumphantly. He placed both his hands on his hips and smiled victoriously at the sky.

“OK dipshit. How exactly are we going to do that? We don’t know whose hiring, we’re too young, and that would be too risky.”

Party pooper. “Well what do you suppose we should do Einstein?” he asked.

“I don’t know. Sell our bodies to science?” she joked.

Oh haha hilarious. Sometimes CeCe had no true since of humor so he was always the one left doing all the joking. She tries to help, but it’s just hopeless. She once made a sea gull joke;

-Wanna hear a seagull joke?

-Sure.

-Why do seagulls fly over the sea?

-I don’t know why.

-If they flew over the bay they’d be bagels.

It’s just hopeless.

“Anthony, I think there’s only one thing to do.” He looked over his shoulder to her.

“We take the small amount of money left in our pockets, get on a bus and get to where we need to go. Then we get to your moms, we have her help us get back home.”

He didn’t want to admit defeat like that, but it was the only option left. They decided on it. They went and gathered up their stuff without saying anything to the motel manager. And with that, they left. They soon found their way to a bus stop, sat there waiting for the next bus, which happened to be the number twelve bus.

They paid the amount they needed and hoped on. The bus smelt like a public restroom with a hint of Downey softener. They told the driver where they needed to go. They picked their seats from the many assortments of seats and seated themselves.

The bus ride was bumpy, yet, somehow they had found a way to fall asleep.

He closed his eyes and soon he saw nothing, everything went black.
