Finding Father

Silently trying to move up each tree branch seemed so much easier in his mind. His foot slipped and gave way underneath him, but his arms still wrapped around the branch gave him silent relief. He pulled himself up and carefully moved down the ways of the branch till he was close enough to the window.

            He tapped lightly on the window for a while till the silhouette of his best friend finally appeared in the window. She looked confused as to why at 3 in the morning he was at her window, or how he was still alive climbing that tree.

            She grabbed the bottom of the window and pushed it up till it was open. “Anthony?” she asked still stunned.

            “Yeah it’s me. Now do you want to move before I fall?” he asked. She moved out of the way of her window and he grabbed onto the window seal and got off the branch and slowly moved his foot up and inside the room and then pushed himself up and inside.

            “What the hell are you doing here at such an ungodly hour?” she asked a bit annoyed.

            “Geez CeCe I thought you would be happy to see me.” He said with a sly grin.

            She stuck her tongue out at him.  “Well if you must know, I have just recently found out that I am adopted. I found my birth certificate and a picture of me and my mom.” He pulled his backpack around and pulled out both the picture and certificate and handed them to her.

            “I always thought you were adopted, I mean come on your whole family is blonde and somehow you have brown hair, I mean red flag much?” she looked down at the photo. “She’s beautiful, how old is she?”

            He looked at the photo from the side, from where he could see it. “Yeah she is isn’t she? She was 15. So that means she’s about 29 to 30 now.”

            She looked up from the photo and at Anthony and handed the photo back. “So you came here at this time to tell me this?” he shook his head.

            She looked at the certificate. “The area where your Father’s name should be is blank. Do you know who he is?” he shook his head.
