Chapter 6
The visions still haunted her dreams. The blood, the dead bodies, it was still so real—so vivid. The heat of the flames felt so real she swore she could still feel them on her face. She felt that the blood of the thirty nine others rested on her hands, which the whole reason they were dead was because of her. All the little children’s whose lives were robbed short because of her. The oldest ones who never got to experience life in the real world never got the freedom she got—they got death. Their freedom was now heaven. Although she knew it wasn’t her fault, she never shook away the pain it left.
The light of the morning sun shining in rays through the closed baby blue curtains hit her face forced her out of her thoughts. She needed to get up and ready herself for work. If she came in late again her boss would have a cow. She didn’t need the disturbing Image of a cow coming out of her bosses special areas haunting her thoughts every day, so she forced herself up out of the bed and to the bathroom that hangs just left of the bedroom door.
The reflection in the mirror she saw looked right at her, almost as if through to her soul. As free as she was she felt trapped, yet she knew not by what. She shrugged it off and started getting ready. Starting by jumping into the shower to drying her hair and choosing her outfit. Working in a law firm office limited her creative choices as to what she could wear each day to work. Settling on the dark blue dress pants and white ruffled blouse she felt satisfied and began her way downstairs to finish getting ready for the day.
She walked over to the kitchen and grabbed her charging phone on the counter. The name Caitlyn popped up on the screen. A recent text.
Better be on your way, Matthews is getting pissed.

Great, now her boss was truly about to give birth to that cow. Matthews was her boss and if you got that lady angry you would be on prohibition with her for weeks. She grabbed her phone and slipped it into her pocket and headed to the back door to grab her jacket and bag. Slipping her shoes on and grabbing her keys she opened the door to garage and walked out to the waiting red Camry. Slipping into the driver’s seat and turning on the engine she lifted her hand to over her head and pressed to small grey button that opened the large metal garage doors behind the car.
The car was put into reverse and started out the doors. Turning out of the driveway to the street she started on her way to the office located in the middle of downtown. As she drove, she looked at all the faces that she passed on the streets, the faces of happy couples, joyful children and angry people. She often wondered how life looked through their eyes. Would it be strained and painful like how she sees? Would they see the pain and suffering of the dark world she sees? Or do they see happiness? It has been so long since she saw the world so beautifully, since she felt freedom. All she saw was people who never felt what she felt, never experienced pain like she, but at the same time she’d rather that she feel all of it so they wouldn’t have to.
The drive seemed so short while being lost in thought. She pulled into a vacant parking spot and cut the engine. Stepping out into the open air she made her way towards and into the building. She turned down a hall and smiled at Dave the receptionist. He threw her a gentle smile and wave. She nodded back in response. She hurried to the elevator and hit 4th floor hoping it would be quick. If anymore time passed, she might be late.
Once the doors opened she walked through the hall and around cubicles towards her office. She opened the large glass doors and made her way over to her desk setting down her bag. The doors to her office re-opened. In walked Matthews.
“Love, you were almost late, and you know how I feel about tardies in the work place.” Matthews stated holding the glass doors open. Vivien looked up and nodded. Her boss seemed to accept this as her assurance of the work policy.
“Good. Now, you have a new client who is working in a divorce against her husband and I expect you’ll take it?” Vivien again nodded. “Good. Your client will be here in 20.” Matthews said waving herself off and out the doors.

After finally closing up and packing up the remaining files from all her meetings today Vivien trudged out of her office. She began walking to the elevator and pressed the arrow that points downward. She heard the rushing of shoes behind her.
“V! Wait hold on!” she turned her head slightly and saw her old friend Caitlyn hurrying to the elevator. She slipped between the doors before the closed. She took in a deep breath.
“You ok? You look sad.” Caitlyn stated studying her friend. Vivien smiled and shook her head. Releasing a breath she didn’t know she was holding she chuckled. “Oh nothing, just busy day. Was almost late and I swore Matthews was watching me all day.” The two laughed.
After the elevator stopped they parted ways saying goodbye. She walked out to her car hurriedly. She started up the engine and hurried home before nightfall. She wanted to get back and start making dinner before Jason came over. Jason was not officially her boyfriend; they were just on a trial period to see how things would go if they did begin dating and so far things were pretty good.
After arriving home she got straight to work making spaghetti for dinner. She threw her hair back into a messy bun and went over to the boiling pot of water and placed the thick pasta into the water. It was almost 8:46 and suddenly the door bell rang. Jason wasn’t supposed to be over for little while longer. She paced herself over to the door and slowly unlocked the locks.
She pulled the door open to see a young boy and girl standing on her door step. Confusion swept over. Were they trying to sell something for their school? Suddenly the boy spoke up.
“Vivien Love?” she was taken aback.
“Who are you?” she asked trying to figure out how this kid could possibly know who she was.
“I’m Anthony. I’m your son.”
