'First thing tomorrow morning' Kept playing over and over again in her head, she had tried desperately to get in touch with Adam only to find out he was under cover. Though, the new desk sergeant promised to get a hold of him as soon as they could.

That was four hours ago, the pit in her stomach growing larger by the minute, she sat in front of the computer screen.

Her head screaming at her to stay off the internet, to not google her son's symptoms but she needed information. She was waging a war against herself, on one hand she justified it as 'being prepared'. Everyone who knew Kim Ruzek, knew she needed to prepare for everything, it was actually a running joke. This, this was different though her gut screaming that it was more than a 'bug', and that was what scared her the most.

Finally her head won out and she closed the laptop and went to check on the kids.

It was nearly eleven and both had been asleep for hours, Adam crashing before Dani did. She was pleased when he ate some dinner, and thoroughly destroyed the ice cream sundae she had made for them after dinner.

Carefully she pushed the door open and sat at his desk, she couldn't help but smile as he slept, the football Adam had bought before he was born in his hand.

He had spiked a fever earlier in the evening, this time he it really seemed to bother him. In the past he had trudged through the fevers, playing as if he was fine. Not this time, his eyes looked glassy and he was more lethargic than he had been. It was clear his little body was in an intense battle with whatever it was living inside him.

She heard the front door open, a relief washing over her.

Her anchor was home.

"Adam!" She rushed towards him, he had barely taken his jacket off before she launched herself into his arms.

Adam could feel her trembling in his arms, he held her for a minute knowing that was exactly what she needed.

They stood like that for a few minutes, both silent. Words were unnecessary at that point, she needed him.

Finally he led them to the couch, his heart racing. He knew whatever it was that upset his wife, it was serious.

Fearfully he spoke, "Kim, what's the matter?" He ran his hand over the top of her's, "what's going on?" His voice a mere whisper, he searched her eyes for a hint.

Finding nothing but fear in them, he was certain his own eyes now reflected the same emotion.

"The doctor called" she told him, she hadn't said the words out loud yet and she struggled with it.

"They get the results back?" Adam asked as he took his badge off setting in on the coffee table, his gun joining the badge soon after.

She grabbed a tissue, "Didn't say" she dabbed at her eyes.

"Darlin', you're scaring me just a little bit, what did he say?" He needed to know, he pulled her closer to him, her head on his chest. He knew she was crying, but he needed to know, he lifted her chin with his index fingers, "Please tell me what's going on" he pleaded with her.

"Dr.Miller wants us at his office with Adam, at seven tomorrow morning" she composed herself, "he needs to discuss somethings with us"

"Okay" Adam rubbed her back, "Please don't panic, not yet" he told her. He knew she wouldn't though, and to be honest he was pretty close to panicking. He'd spent the last forty five minutes on his laptop at the district looking up their little boy's symptoms. Jay and Kevin both walking in on him glued to the screen.

They had decided to keep Adam's issues to themselves until they knew what he was dealing with. Sure, their friends knew he'd been sick but they had been able to hide a lot of it from them.
