He was livid as he paced the porch, everything in him told him to go back and shoot the son of a bitch. It'd make the world a better place. He spotted Josh's car pull into the drive, he went and met him as he exited the vehicle.
"Dad, what's going on? It's not little Adam is it?" Josh asked, his secretary didn't elaborate just told him he needed to get home. He had her clear his scheduled appointments fearing the worst.
Bob's hands still curled into fists, he was sure his blood pressure was sky high.
"Do you want to know what that son of a bitch did, Joshua, what he said about my grandson" he had a fire in his belly, he couldn't remember a time that had made him this angry before.
Josh put his hand on his back, "Let's go inside, you need to calm down Dad" Josh unlocked the door and let his father in first.
"I showed him a picture"
Josh interrupted him, groaning, "Of Adam? Dad you shouldn't have done that, you know Kim and Adam don't want him knowing anything about him"
Bob finally sat down, burying his face in his hands, "I know, I'm desperate though. He may be able to save that kid and he won't" he pulled the picture from his pocket, "he ripped it in half, Son. How could he have done that? He's just a kid" he felt defeated, "He asked who I thought would die first, him or Adam" he finally lost his resolve and fell apart.
"Ah, Dad" was all Josh could say.
Dr.Miller looked at the assembled group, wishing this could all be avoided.
"These are my parents Dr.Miller, Kenneth and Stella Burgess" Kim made the necessary introductions, "Mom, Dad, this is Adam's doctor, he's the one who made the diagnosis"
The trio shook hands, Kim's parents attention quickly returning back to the children.
"What's up?" Adam asked as he took his spot beside Kim, "what do you need to tell us?" He tried reading the doctor's body language and came up empty.
Dr.Miller glanced at the children, "Can we go to my office?"
"Mom, will you guys be okay for a bit?"
Stella smiled, Dani already in her lap and Adam giving his grandfather a crash course on Minecraft. "We're good, go on"
Kim and Adam followed him to the office, "Have a seat"
Adam shifted in the chair, "Doc, I'm not going to lie you've got me scared shitless right now" a nervous laugh following his words.
Dr.Miller took his glasses off, he had spent the last few nights tossing and turning, his wife begged him to level with Kim and Adam.
The thing was he didn't know right away, it was months later he finally figured it out.
"There is no way to say this other than to just tell you" he paused, it was mere seconds but it felt like a lifetime, "I'm Jeremiah Miller's uncle. His father was my brother"
Kim was shocked, she heard the words, but the didn't make sense at all, "What?"
Adam rose from his chair, "You've gotta be kidding me? You're just telling us now?" He never gave any thought to the fact that the two men shared the same surname, just chalked it up to being a common name.
"I know it's shocking and may even be unsettling, but I assure you I haven't seen him since he was an infant. I hated my brother and he was a monster, we were brothers in name only" he justified.
"How did you make the connection?" Kim asked, "we never told you his name"
"My wife is a journalist and was working on a project, his name popped up and in turn so did yours" he rubbed his temple, "my wife told me about it, she knew I have a soft spot for Adam" he wore a lopsided smile, "looking back on it, it kind of makes sense I guess."
Adam stood his hands on his hips, "You should have told us as soon as you realized"
Kim interrupted him, her hand on his chest, "It doesn't matter Adam, he's a wonderful doctor and he's been great for our son" her palm on his cheek,"it's okay, I'm okay with it"
"What else did you have to tell us?" He demanded to know.
"As soon as I found out, I went to be tested" he told them.
Adam stopped pacing, "and...?"
--Note---
Super short I know but I like how it ends, and I had difficulty getting this one together, it's also unedited. I've become pretty lazy when it comes to editing.
