Before the doctor could finish his sentence, Mrs. Wyatt was up out of her seat and sprinting down the hall with her husband in tow. I followed, carrying Mia who had fallen asleep while we were waiting. The doctor directed us to a room in the ICU wing of the hospital.
"My baby!" Mrs. Wyatt shrieked when she saw James, unconscious, hooked up to at least 5 different machines. My stomach flipped, I couldn't bear to see James like that.
"Wh-what happened," Mia asked timidly, woken up by all the commotion.
"James here has a brain tumor," the doctor explained. Mrs. Wyatt gasped and fell to her knees. Mia grabbed my hand and squeezed it.
"How serious is this, doctor?" Mr Wyatt asked.
"It's not too serious, actually, James should be good as new after a small surgery. The tumor is benign, and we only have him in the ICU because his body was shaken up by the seizure," said the doctor. "You're welcome to stay, he should be waking up any minute now."
"Okay, thank you doctor," said Mr, Wyatt, as he tried to collect his wife up from the floor. The doctor nodded and walked out. Shortly after the doctor left, I felt my phone vibrate. It was my friend, Cassie.
"Where are you???" it read, "You and James just won homecoming queen and king!"
I didn't feel like dealing with Cassie now, so I texted my mom to let her know what was going on and then put my phone away. We were only there for a few more minutes when suddenly James' eyes flickered open.
