(I'll be switching point of view between the two main characters. Read on :])
Kaylie
Why does life suck? The only good time of my life was in kindergarten; nap time. And that lasted long. I would rather be in nap time than running from the biggest thing I've ever seen. Tripping on a rock, I turned to look at the face of the beast chasing me. Yellow eyes stared into mine as it opened it's mouth, moving toward my face.

“Have you seen the Notebook?” Erin shoved a handful of popcorn in her mouth.
“Nah. But everyone says that movie is really cheesy.” I painted another layer of Caribbean blue nail polish on my pinkie finger. I looked up at Erin and thought how weird it was for her to be named Erin. Something more scary and seductive would work best. Erin's hair was cut short and bright red. The curves on her pale white body would make anyone jealous. Her clothes, black for the most part, hung too low for anyone to see her amazing curves. Well, most of the time. Add pretty brown eyes to that and lots of guys throw themselves all over her.
“Kay? Are you even listening to me?” Erin waved her hand in my face and watched my eyes. I blinked a couple times and focused on her face.
“Sorry. I spaced out again.” I looked down at my fingers to see the blue still in place, not a smudge in sight.
“Air. I'm telling you. This next quiz should finally prove it to you.” Erin handed me a piece of paper she must have gotten when I wasn't looking. You see, Erin is into witchcraft and being super spiritual, and she'd been taking online tests to see how powerful she was or whatever for as long as I could remember. I glanced at the web link on it and smiled at her.
“I really don't believe this stuff. If I was the element air, wouldn't I have noticed? Like you said, some people just don't get an element.” I didn't want to admit to her that I thought it would be awesome to have an element power. I crumpled the paper and tossed it at my little yellow waste basket. It missed and landed on the floor.
“Damn it Kaylie, you'll never know if you don't try!” Erin jumped up from my bed and grabbed the paper from the floor, un-crumpling it. Erin's phone chimed and flashed to life.
Erin sank into my bed, picking up her phone. She clicked a button and stared at the screen. She sighed and shoved the paper at me, standing.
“Where are you going?” I stood after her. I kept glancing back at her phone, like it would tell me the answer I wanted to know.
“Uh.. my dad just texted me. He wants me home.” Erin peeked at my clock and snapped her head back to me. “I'm twenty minutes late.” In a rush, Erin scooped her things from my room and ran towards the door calling back, “I'll talk to you tomorrow Kay!”
“Bye..” I sighed and plopped back down on my bed. My parents weren't home, gone for the weekend, and I had nothing to do. I decided to go outside. Better than sitting on my bed and thinking about what I could be doing on a Friday night without my parents home.

Walking on the sidewalk of my street, I stared at the ground. The brisk, cold air was waking me up from a tiring day. I forgot a coat so I was getting cold. I was about to turn around and go back to my house when something bright caught my eye.
I turned back towards it, mumbling, “What was that?” I looked around, trying to find it, when I seen the object sparkle again. I reached for it, still seeing it sparkle. I grabbed it and held it in my hand. The cold, rock looking object slid into my pocket as I turned back to the house, feeling myself get colder with the second.
I got to my house and headed for the garage, instead of the door. I locked the front door and used the garage to get out, so I didn't bring my key. I punched in the combo to the garage and waited for it to open. It climbed open slowly and I trudged in the house. My legs suddenly felt heavy. I plopped on the couch, the new found object in my pocket forgotten, and fell asleep instantly.
