Disproved in Message Received.
Recently, a clip from one of the upcoming Steven Universe episodes shows Connie and Greg arriving to the barn to greet Steven. It is here that we find out that Steven is actually older than Connie by 1 and 1/4 years.
In one part of the clip, Amethyst jokes to Peridot about joining the part instead of working on the drill. Peridot had no lines in this clip and simply put on her goggles in response. Why did Peridot turn so cold towards Amethyst?
It makes sense that she may be confused or doesn't understand why humans celebrate birthdays (as expressed by the Crystal Gems in Too Many Birthdays). But there could be another reason.
Maybe recently, between Too Far and The Answer, Peridot made contact with Yellow Diamond. The message Peridot sent out in Cry for Help, probably reached Homeworld and Yellow Diamond created plans after viewing the call. With her theorized power to open portals, she made Peridot her spy to gain intelligence on the Crystal Gems in exchange for a trip back to Homeworld.
This could be why Peridot became all quiet to Amethyst and the episodes following it will show that Peridot becomes more distant until the last episode of Steven Bomb 4.
The last episode name in Steven Bomb 4 is Log Date 7 15 2 where Steven listens to "a friend's" audio diary (most likely Peridot). This is my theory talking, so he notices how Peridot has been getting suspicious as he gets closer to the latest entry. That's where he tries to cheer Peridot up by taking a trip on Lion (scene in the promo). At the final minutes of the episode, Yellow Diamond uses her theorized mind control powers to attack the Gems.
