Lives concluded in brief flashes. The loss of tributes is high, one of the most violent bloodbaths in living history, and even the most arrogant of tributes cannot ignore the haunting possibility of death.
To distract yourself from the suffocating atmosphere of mortality you decide to explore its depths in closer detail. In the distance you spot a lone house clinging onto the barren horizon. There are no natural sources of food or water, and so you fix your attentions onto it and begin the trek across the dusty earth.
However, the closer you get the more the building begins to strike you as odd. As you make your way towards it, it becomes obvious why. The way the roof slopes, the exact shade of the door, every tiny detail your mind recalls; it is an exact match.
You find yourself no longer walking but jogging towards the house as Pandora's voice fills the arena.
"The observant amongst you will have noticed that you are currently traversing the ruins of District Thirteen. This abandoned waste land was once a home to many. The barren dust you crush underfoot was once a well traveled path of familiarity, now torn to shreds. I assume it has not passed your notice that a certain number of these abandoned houses seem more than familiar. We just thought it fitting to remind you that everything you hold dear is not free from destruction or decay."
A clattering tumbles over the end of the message as Pandora concludes her announcement. Over the din you think you catch the sound of her giggle and a few words uttered before the message finally cuts out. Her voice is far removed from the solemn hush at the beginning of her speech. These words are spoken with gleeful anticipation.
"I do love a bit of psychological torment..."
Task:
- You continue towards the house to find it an exact replica of your home, the only difference being that this building is decaying, broken and ruined. You search through a few rooms to find familiar objects scattered across the floor. Ominous stains and scars suggest the sudden demise of the members who share the house with you.
- On the floor of the living room you find a recently taken photograph of your family members discarded without care. You are not in it; it was taken on the day of the reaping. A large crack running down the glass obscures the picture underneath.
- You must write your tribute's reaction to the scene.
- Two people must die over the course of the entry. Your tribute can see them being killed or kill them themselves. It doesn’t matter as long as it can be worked out who dies. For the ease of the Gamemakers, please write those who die in a list after your entry. Failure to do this will result in your entry being discounted.
- As well as the two entry deaths, please give two ballot deaths in a separate list. For those who are unfamiliar with the ballot death concept, please read the ‘Game Options’ chapter of the Handbook. Ballots cannot be the same as your entry deaths. Your ignorance is not our problem and failure to provide correct ballot deaths will result in your entry being discounted.
- The six who are killed the most will be up for votes. Anybody who doesn’t hand in will be automatically facing elimination. Failure to hand in two tasks results in disqualification. If you haven't already guessed we are not fond of people who miss deadlines.
- Word Limit: 1,600
- Sponsor benefit: 200 extra words
- Deadline: 8PM Capitol Time [BST], Saturday 13th July. All those handing in within twelve hours of this deadline will receive a +2 death penalty.
