The pitter patter of rain falls against the windows against the tall standing victorian type house. The streest are dark, save for the few cars and peoole that roam about in the neighborhood. Inside the house, a family of six is sitting at the table eating dinner. As they eat, all is quiet exceot for the occasional sound of a metal fork hitting the plate. "Alice? Aren't you going to eat your dinner?" a woman in an english accent says. A little girl the age of eight, though small for ger age, looks up. " 'm not that hungry. Can-can I be excused?" the little girl answers. The mother frowns and purses her lips," Now honey, I know don't really feel like eating, but you must. I don't want you getting ill." she points towards Alice's plate with her fork. "If you can finish half of your dinner, you may leave." with that, the woman goes back to eating. Alice sighs but does as she says, eating slowly and her mouth screwed in distaste until half of the food is gone.
"Can I leave now? It's half gone." she holds her plate up so the woman can see. Nodding and smiling at the girl, she gives her permission. Alice drops her plate to the table and slides off the chair. She then dashes out of the dining room and up the dark oak stairs to her bedroom at the end of a long hallway that's linned with doors. Enetering, she slides the heavy door closed and climbs onto her bed with little ease and crawls over to the window that the side if her bed is pressed against. Climbing onto the crevice that holds a small cushion for the window seat, she gazes out onto the forests that lay behind her neighborhood. Its been two days since she was brought here from the orphanage. When her parents died, the police wasted no time in shoving her off to there and getting families and psychologists to try and get her to speak of her parents. She refused, of course. It's not everyday that an eight year old child will watch her parents bash each other's face in till the death.
Alice doesn't waste her time in reminiscing about that. Instead, she listens to the rain hitting the window glass, the trees ruffling in the wind, and the beginnings of thunder and lightning begining to brew. She listens to the people on the streets, the animals in the forest, the domestic ones in civilization; all the sounds of the moving and busy city. After a few minutes, there's a knock on the door and Alice turns to face the person who walks in a second after. "Hello sweetheart. Would you mind coming downstairs? Its family time downstairs in the den". Alice stares at the woman, her green eyes wide and dark inside the lighting," You aren't my real family. The real ones are dead. They were dead when I turned three." she says and goes back to looking outside. The woman huffs and puts her hands on her hips," Now, young lady. I am your mother and this is your family now. You go downstairs right now." the mother points outside the room. Alice gets off the bed and walks by her, the mother frowning in concern as Alice only comes up to her mid thigh, making Alice look as if she's four instead of eight.
The mother sighs and follows after Alice, down the stairs and into the den and sits next the father. Then, they click on the television and start watching Alice in Wonderland. Her family laughs and her mother pokes her nose softly," Remember sweety, this isn't Wonderland. And you aren't Alice." she jokes and everyone but Alice laughs, while Alice herself raises an eyebrow in confusion. Some minutes into the movie and it's interrupted by a breaking news. "We have just discovered that CEO, Thomas Newton of Brighter Times comoany has had the charges dropped against him. Recently he was accused of killing a father of three when the man claimed that the CEO was conducting illegal activities. Since the man had no evidence, the police didn't pay much mind to the man but he was found dead in Kale River." Alice listens to tjis with more interest than the rest of her family and soon, it cuts back to the movie. Smiling secretly to herslef, she starts plotting and planning, filing the information she got abouth the CEO away in her head for later.
'Finally, something fun to do.'
