It was only then that I realized that I was bleeding. the whole left side of my face was covered in blood. I lead my hand up to it and touched it slightly bringing my hand back down to the front of my face. I looked at it skeptically. I had no idea where I had done this. I hadn't felt it either. Suddenly Interested in the floor tiles and still letting the nurse take care of my wounds, Ben sat in one of the hospital chairs that squeaked when you sat down immediately sensing that they are pretty old. His brown hair matted to his head and his slightly blue eyes stared at the posters on the wall that had a few Bible verses. I stared at him with contentment, he's my little brother now. I thought. The nurse gave us an all clear and we headed out of the hospital, I just had my backpack on me and coincidentally I had a little cash and the paper to the Capitol Records building. I hailed a cab and I told them the Capitol Records building. Luckily it only cost 13 dollars to get us there.
I step into the building and it was a new place. I grabbed Bens hand and squeezed it reassuringly. "Brooke, I'm hungry." He said while tugging my shirt and looking up at me. Candy bars only cost $1 so I bought him one.
"I'm here to see Mr. Darwin."
"Do you have an appointment?" The secretary looked at me like I needed to be bottle fed. Her brown eyes shooting daggers into my skin and a piece of her hair fell out of her wrap up. That looked like she spent hours tying it back,Hair spraying, and clipping the jet black hair. She quickly pushed it back behind her ear with her pink manicured hand.
"And your name is?"
"Brooklyn Saison."
"And the little boy?"
"Benjamin Saison."
"Aren't you a little young to be frolicking with other men?" She asked looking at me disgusted.
I took a deep breath to explain that he was my brother and that she doesn't need to be assuming things.
"Stacy that's enough." A large man stood behind me and grabbed my shoulder. "She's with me. Stacy you don't need to be interrogating my clients." He said ask he was steering Ben and I towards his office.
"Mr. Darwin?" I asked trying to confirm it was him.
"Hmm?" He asked as he was still walking and looking ahead of him.
"Umm I'm sorry about this inconvenience but my brother came along."
"Sit. It's no big deal." He says as we enter his office and sit in the brownish red seats in front of his what looks like mahogany desk.
"Thank you sir, but we will need clothing, there was a plane crash and we lost all our luggage, I just have this backpack." I said gesturing to my luggage.
"You can go tomorrow I heard about the crash you saved many kids out there. You are already in the front of the newspapers and all over television." he said not surprised while lounging in his chair.
"Yes sir..." I said not knowing where this was going.
He walked around his desk and got into a closet. And got 3 keys out of it. " he tossed me the keys. "Two of these are for your car and for your new house."
"What? But I thought I was going to get a small apartment." I asked confused with this who situation really starstruck.
"Brooklyn sweet Brooklyn, we pay for the first 6 months then you're on your own, by then you should have enough money to pay us back and make a living for yourself."
"Does this mean I get an unlimited credit card?" I ask hopefully.
"Yes but you can only spend $10,000 a day." He said as if it was something that was going to hold me back.
I squealed and looked at Ben next to me as he was squirming. "Are you okay sweetheart?" I asked.
"Yeah it's just getting really late and I'm tired." He said while pointing at the window and payed his head down on my lap. Instincts took over and I started running my hands through his hair.
I diverted my attention back to Mr. Darwin. He seemed to be looking at Ben's sleeping form. "He's not really your brother is he, I did a little research you don't have a little brother under the name of Benjamin. Is he your.."
At that I cut him off " NO! No sir, he's a kid who I was sitting next to on the plane when it crashed he got knocked out and had amnesia,I already called his closest relatives and they don't want him and I didn't want him to be put in foster care so I took him in as my brother." I said explaining everything.
"Hmm, that's interesting, I will support you and him too, but he can't be a distraction and he has to go to school."
Of course! Mr. Darwin, I will be there what ever he needs."
" there is a personal driver out there for you, tomorrow you have a big day a head of you, you're going shopping, registering Benjamin in school, and also taking your driving test."
"Yes sir. will do." I said and carried Ben out and walked out of the building wishing Stacy the sectary a lovely night.
Just as Mr. Darwin told me there was a car and someone in there. We got in and we drove to our new house. Excitement took over me and I woke Ben up. "Ben, we are going to be there soon and you will have to take a shower and pick your room."
At that Ben woke up and was excited to get there. He was still a bit tired but for the most part excited. We got there and it was bigger than I expected.
"Whoa." Was all Ben and I could say.
