Why me (2)

I woke up to the sun shining brightly through the curtains. Chaise was sleeping soundly next to me. I smiled to myself. What a night, I thought. I slowly shifted along the bed to get off without waking him up. I pulled on my underwear and walked over to Chaise's clothes and put on one of his t-shirts. I never understood why dudes always wore 3 or 4 sizes bigger clothes than their actual size. Pointless. I quietly sneaked out the room, slightly left the door ajar and went downstairs.

Chaise:

My eyes opened. The smell of pancakes surrounded the room and wafted through my nose. I got up, stretched and put on some clothes. I looked in the mirror and my eyes were yellow. Dammit. Not now, I said to myself. The door across the room reflected in the mirror and caught my eye. I turned around and walked towards it. What needs to be done has to be done, I thought. I looked around the room, just in case Audrey was watching because she can't find out now. It was clear. I opened the door and walked in; making sure I closed the door behind me. The room was dark but I could see clear as day.

Eyes appeared. Deep, empty ones.

"Hello my friend," it said.

"You need to leave. The deal is off," I said sternly.

Audrey:

Thought I'd make something since I was here and was treated well. I smiled to myself and bit my lip. I lay the pancakes on a plate and added some syrup to top it off. I walked up the two flight of stairs and pushed the door open. I smiled. Chaise was laying on the bed looking up at the high ceiling.

"Good morning," he said.

He sat up and smiled at me. The yellowy-brown eyes that was there last night, was replaced with his normal greyish-brown ones. He sniffed the air.

"Yes I made you pancakes," I laughed as I walked towards him and gave it to him. "Don't worry they aren't burnt."

"I wouldn't have minded. I must say, you do look rather smashing with my t-shirt on," he said in a posh voice.

"Do I?" I twirled around.

He nodded with the pancake in his mouth.

"Well thank you my dear. That's very kind of you."

I heard my phone vibrate and looked for my jeans and took it out the pocket.

ItsNickiBitch 10:23: Turn on the news now.

He patted a space next to him, indicating me to sit there.

"Where's your TV remote?" I asked. "I need to see the news."

"Its over there on the table," he replied.

I grabbed the control and turned on the flat screen TV. I changed the channel to CNN and sat on the bed, waiting to hear something disturbing.

The presenter boomed out the TV as she talked. "Another person was found alive in the forest where 4 other students was found dead. She was located deep in the forest in a shack last night. She is now safe in the hands of the Saint Joseph's doctors but is still traumatised by her ordeal. Next we have the weath.."

I was lost in my thoughts as I sat still on the bed. I never understood how I got out that forest. I blacked out and that's it. Everyone else got killed except me? I was the most vulnerable one but yet I wasn't maliciously slaughtered by that monster? Now someone else was found. Alive. I needed to see what she knew and what she was doing there in the first place.

I turned around and asked to Chaise,"Can I stay here a bit longer? We have something we need to do."

"We? Whose 'we'?" He confusingly asked.

"Me and you," I pointed out. "Can you take me home so I can get a few things and take a shower please?"

"Erm yeah sure."

I put on my jeans and carried my shoes in my hand. Chaise grabbed his car keys and drove me to my house. I told him to wait in the car. I ran inside and straight to the bathroom. I could hear my mom snoring in the other bedroom. I jumped out the shower and put on some clean clothes. I grabbed a bag and stuffed extra clothes in with my deodorant and my toothbrush. Once I was done, I walked into the room where my mom was sleeping. My little brother's. The one that went missing 7 years ago and still hasn't been found. I walked over to her and kissed her cheek. She smelt of alcohol and the scent was strong on her. I felt bad for leaving her but I had to. I closed the door slightly and walked out the house.

"You have everything you need?" Chaise asked as I got into the car.

"Yup," I answered.

We drove off.

"How's your ma? Is she okay?"

I sighed. "Yeah. She's okay. I just hope she wakes up seriously and look at what she's doing to herself and me."

Having a realisation, Chaise stopped the car. "Wait. Where are we going?"

I smiled at him. "We're going to Saint Joseph's Hospital. We're going to see that girl."

"But we don't even know her name."

"Well we'll find out. You'll see." I winked.

He bit his lip, put his car into gear and we drove to the hospital.

Arriving there under 20 minutes, we walked through the automatic doors and up to the reception.

The receptionist was on her mobile phone. Bad service.

"Hello. We are the brother and sister of the girl that came in last night. Can you tell us what room she's in please?" I said as I forced tears to form in my eyes.

Her face looked full of pity. "If you take the elevator to the 4th floor, then turn right and its room number 103. I'm sorry about your sister."

"Thank you." I walked towards the elevator with Chaise by my side.

"Wow," Chaise remarked.

I wiped away the fake tears. "I told you so." I winked.

He laughed and flirtatiously said,"Oh yes you did."

The elevator zoomed up to the 4th floor and we got out onto a long corridor.

"Room 103. Room 103. 103," I kept repeating to myself.

"There it is," Chaise pointed out.

I grabbed hold of the door knob and breathed. I opened it and entered the room. There was the sound of that beeping again but I couldn't see the machine. Curtains were surrounding the bed behind. I opened one side.

"Oh my god." My face dropped. I stood there staring at the face that lay in the bed.
