It had been about a month since Nick and Carla had returned from their romantic London break. Everything was good. Business was booming at the factory and the bistro. Wedding plans were full steam ahead and they had even looked at houses. But for the last few days, Nick had noticed something different about Carla. She was acting strange, and not a kind of strange that Nick recognised.

Nick was on his break and was walking to the Kabin to buy a gazette. On his way he saw Michelle just coming out of the rovers, heading to the bus stop. "Michelle!", Nick shouted, as he ran to catch up with her.
"Oh heya Nick", Michelle said. She knew that if Nick wanted to talk to her it would be about Carla and probably visa versa. Michelle knew that Nick was the best Carla's had. He was kind, caring and loving. Just what Carla needed.
"Its about Carla" Nick said.
"Would never of guessed that" Michelle replied, laughing.
"Its just shes been acting funny, these last few days"
"Have you asked her if anythings up?", Michelle asked.
"Yeah, she said she was fine, but the other day she didn't go into she was sick, really sick"
"Oh", signed Michelle. "I don't know really, but you know Carla, shes always okay in the end", Michelle added.

Carla sat on the sofa, curled up into a little ball, covered up with her favourite red blanket. The red blanket that smelled so vigorously of Nick. His aftershave. Him. Carla knew something was wrong with her, she just didn't feel herself. She couldn't focus, she was tired all the time, in fact she hadn't felt like this since... since she thought she was pregnant. The thought hit her like a strong tornado. No she couldn't be pregnant. Could she? Slowly, a tear rolled down her left cheek. Carla checked her watch. It was 4 o'clock. She had clocked off early as Aidan reckoned she could do with some rest. Nick didn't finish work until 6. Carla knew she had to get a pregnancy test, as soon as possible.
She unwrapped herself from the ball she was in, slipped on her boots, grabbed her handbag and coat and headed out the door. She struggled to manage the stairs. The possibility of being pregnant again just rocked her world. Her thoughts just cascaded back to when she was last pregnant, and how she lost her baby girl, but if she was pregnant then at least this this baby would be Nicks. Nick would be the dad. Nick was loving, caring, content. He would be a wonderful dad, to say the least, Carla thought.

As she walked over to Dev's she realised she couldn't go in there as Erica now worked there and no one could know until Carla knew for certain herself. She quickly jumped in her car, went to the nearest supermarket, picked three tests up and then went back home.

Meanwhile Nick was still working, the Bistro was fairly quiet for a Friday afternoon, but had a few booking in the evening.
"Go home Nick", said Leanne.
"What?", asked Nick confused.
"Go home, i'll manage here", Leanne replied smiling.
"Are you sure?", Nick asked.
"Go before i change my mind!", laughed Leanne. As Nick headed out of the bistro, he checked his phone. There was a message from Carla from 2 hours ago, reading 'I've left work early, at home now xxx'. Nick decided to pop into the Kabin on his way back. He bought Carla's favourite chocolate; mars , and the latest issue of ok magazine.

Nick stood outside number 12 knocking for about 3 minutes, until he remembered he had a key. He fumbled in his pocket and eventually found it. As he unlocked the door and let himself in, the sweet smell of Carla's perfume hit him.

"Carla!", Nick called out. "Are you in?", he called again. As Nick stood still and silently he could hear gentle sobs and deep breaths coming from the bathroom. Nick quickly rushed into the bathroom and found Carla leaning over the sink, mascara running down her cheeks and as Nick looked into the sink, there lay three pregnancy tests, all lined up.
