(tyler's pov)
a/n: this story is slightly long but i really love it. hope you do too!

my favorite color is red. i have a list of things that are red that i love, including roses, autumn leaves, and my beanie.

today, i added another thing to that list.

i saw a boy's hair today at the drugstore; it was like the same color of your fingertips when you quickly touch something hot.

it was perfect, really. he's been on my mind for quite some time now, the shade of red always coming to me when i close my eyes.

typically, ill go to the drugstore when I want something, like candy. today im going to go back to the drugstore where i saw the boy. maybe he'll be there.

slowly walking through the isles, the red hair i knew so well was able to be seen in the hair care section.

"he's probably re-dyeing his hair," i thought.

i ran to the food isle and snatched a bag of sweet tarts, then casually walked back to the hair isle.

i planned on tripping – which was so cliché – but it would be the only thing that might work.

placing my foot and falling over, i dropped the bag of candy.

"oh, damn!" i said. "I'll get that."

the boy noticed and said, "woah! here, let me help you up."

as soon as his hand touched mine i felt blush spread across my face like a winter blizzard.

I nonchalantly picked up the candy bag. "hey, thanks for that." i said.

"no problem."

a moment of awkward silence passed by. "i - i really like your hair." i stammered.

"oh, haha, this? well, im planning on changing it right now. it's pretty faded."

"stick with the red," i said, "it looks really good on you."

he smiled. "thanks. my name's josh, by the way."

"im tyler."

"have you ever dyed your hair?" Josh asked.

"well, no. im not the type of person to–"

"well, don't. because it looks really good on you."

i let out a huge smile. was he flirting? crap. what do i say now?

"i, uh – you wanna hang out?"

josh was glancing up and down at all the hair colors. "yeah...sure, just let me pick out a color. want to help?"

"don't trust me, ive never dyed my hair."

"ehhh, it's fine. ill make it easier. choose between these."

he held out two colors. one was slightly brighter than the other.

"that one," i said, pointing to the bright one.

"hey, i was thinking that too! you're not so bad at choosing hair colors."

i laughed.

"alright, let's go."

josh paid for the hair dye and we walked to the park. neither of us said anything for a while until i spoke, "so...when are you going to dye your hair?"

"well, i was thinking. would you want to dye it?"
i widened my eyes. "woah, I don't know, i mean ive never done that before and–"

"tyler, you have to realize you can do things you haven't done. plus, all you have to do is read the instructions."
