Chapter 17

*READER'S POV*

'Ah, a new day...' I roll over in bed and slap my hand down on the alarm clock that sits on the small wooden table beside my bed, to turn it in my direction. '11:00...' I yawn, still half asleep.

I blink twice before my heart nearly leaps out of my chest.

"I NEED TO MEET GOU BY 1!" I exclaim, out loud this time. It seems that with every moment you hold something inside you, it builds up until it can no longer be held by your rib cage, and manages it's way out your mouth.

Without thinking, I kick Kate softly on the way over to my closet, opposite my bed. She groans, but doesn't seem to wake up completely. 'Typical,' I chuckle slightly, 'She sleeps like a rock.'

I throw on a loose, but cute, light grey top and black leggings, allowing myself time to throw my hair up into a messy bun on the way out the door, and quickly pull my (Y/S) on and am out the door by 12:30.

*HARU'S POV*

I glance down at the thin watch that's tightened around my left wrist. '12:40...'

I look up from my watch and have to squint, even under the shade provided by the row of oak trees beside Samezuka.

"Ah, you made it!" I hear Gou's voice call out behind me, and can almost feel the excitement radiating off her small body. She's carrying a woven basket with both hands, with a large blanket folded neatly between the handles. It reminded him of a scene from a movie, or really anything that seemed to perfect, or odd, to actually happen.

"I brought some mackerel, fresh fruits..." she seemed to go on and on about her "perfect and beautifully arranged meal" that she prepared for the two of them. 'So I was the only one who was invited...' Once again, that odd eerie feeling.

Although she seemed comfortable in my presence alone, she kept barely glancing in the direction to the side of us, as if she were hinting at something. I looked over once, and didn't see anything.

'Something doesn't feel right,' he thought. Maybe it was just because he was standing here, under the protection of trees, outside Samezuka, listening to Rin's sister go on about how a certain type of rice can be really beneficial in a swimmer's diet.

I saw her glance over one last time before turning back to me and giving me one of the largest grins I've ever seen.

And then it happened.

*READER'S POV*

At walking pace, I was able to arrive at Samezuka at 12:57. 'Perfect!'

I set a smile on my face as I approached the large school. Gosh, I don't know what to expect. Is it going to be, like, a picnic, or, a picnic. It can be hard to tell what anything is going to be like with Gou...

I get to the point of the sidewalk where it's a dead end and your forced to walk in the grass, so I step off with one foot and delicately place it on the layer of soft green earth. Normal people probably would've just walked right on, without a second thought. However, I was not among those "normal people." I mean, the grass looked so nice, and even. 'I wonder how long it takes someone to mow all this.'

I'm finally able to leave my grass-trance and just go for it, walking completely across the lawn towards the familiar row of trees. As I get closer, I can just make out Gou's red ponytail, matching with the red and orange of the trees around her. Then I saw... Haru? I picked up my pace. It was Haru, and he was-

My heart dropped.

My ears began to throb.

I could feel my cheeks burning as they reddened, soon more so than Gou's hair.

Haru was kissing Gou, and I'm now realizing that this whole picnic was a setup.

The more I took it in the more I just wanted to cry. I bit my tongue and took in the whole picture, unable to look away.

It wasn't just a kiss, either. It was passionate, and with every second, my disappointment mixed with fury, until my ribs couldn't hold it for a second longer.

"What is this?" It was more of a yell, now, "I trusted you, both of you! Haru, I lo-" I couldn't bring myself to say it. Instead, I turned on my heel, and stormed off Samazuka campus, kicking the neat grass with every step.
