"Hey kid!"
I turned around to see where this familiar voice came from. His hands tucked into his coat pocket, grin was as wide as the sea. The short skeleton who I have come to know so well stood before me, and suddenly his smile was infectious, because a giant grin spread across my face.
"Sans! What are you doing here?" I ask, looking at him.
A soft chuckle leaves the skeleton as he replies. "I'm on break so I decided to look for you! Wanna grab something to eat?"
"Sure! I'd love to!" I said with a kind nod. With that, we began to walk to a small diner.
The diner was styled vintage diner and it looked lovely, with black and white checkered floors and red bar stools and cute little booths by the windows .there was even a red jukebox. We decided to sit at one of the tables. Once we got to the table, Sans pulled my chair out for me.
"Thank you," I said softly and smiled as I sat down.
He nodded as he sat on the other side of the table.Once we ordered, Sans began to talk about how his job is going and how Papyrus bought a new car. It's been about five years since the barrier was broken and the monsters were allowed to live on the surface with humans again. So far, everything is going well for everyone.
"Welp, enough about me, what about you?"
I chuckled and played with my spoon. "Well, Toriel told me yesterday that rumors of a promotion have been going around the school! Maybe she'll be promoted to a higher position!"
Sans' grin widened. "I heard~ Heh, hope she's tellin' jokes to those kids, She's got quite humerous." He winked before taking a sip of his coffee. "But I asked about you, how are YOU doing Frisk?"
I sat back in my chair. "I'm doing alright. Just staying on top of school work and helping out at home."
The skeleton nodded with a soft hum."Make any new friends at school?"
I went quiet.
Sans smile suddenly disappeared.
"Frisk? What happened?""Nothing. I just don't get along well with others."
Sans brought his hand to rest on the table. "What? Why not?" His voice was suddenly dark and scary. An ominous aura surrounding him. "Are others giving you trouble kid?"
I frowned and looked down. "No," I lie, "I just stick to myself."
"Hm," a hum leaves Sans, but I don't dare look at him, fearing his eyes would see right through me if I looked up.
"Well kid, I'm sure you'll make friends soon, there's not much to dislike about you."
I nod and keep my eyes glues to my hands which rested on my lap.
"I'm sure there may even be a kid who has a crush on you," he said and I could feel him wink as he spoke. He always tried to find some way to lighten the mood.
I laughed as I shook my head and looked up at Sans, feeling more confident in this lighter mood. "No way!"
"What?" Sans stared at me and seemed very surprised. "You're pullin' my leg! No dates, no lovers, nothing?"
"Sans the only date I've ever been on was with Papyrus five years ago in the Underground."
Sans looked away. "Oh yeah that's right. Forgot about that."
"Yeah..." There was an awkward pause before I spoke again. "Anyway, that kinda doesn't count, since it wasn't really an actual date. The whole thing was weird and-"
I decided to put ketchup on my fries as I spoke. I seemed to be distracted with my rambling though, because the next thing I knew, ketchup was all over my plate. "Ah!" I exclaimed as I tipped the bottle back up.Sans jumped a bit when he heard my surprised shout.
A sigh of relief came from him as he seen the ketchup."I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that."
Sans shook his head, his grin reassuring me that I was okay."Still the same Frisk I knew in the Underground. Didn't this happen once before?" He chuckled. "Here, have mine," he said, switching our plates. "I wasn't going to eat much anyways," he said softly.
I smiled. "Where would I be without you Sans?"
"Not here spilling ketchup all over your food," he said with a wink while he chuckled. I couldn't help but chuckle with him.
After we finished eating, we left the diner and went for a walk. "Say, thanks for grabbing a bite with me. It was nice to hang with you again," Sans said looking at me. I smiled at him.
"Of course! Any time!"
There was a pause, and Sans nervously rubbed the back of his head.
"Hey kiddo," he then paused, his eyes looking away from me.
I tilted my head a bit, finding this whole thing to be odd. "Yes?"
"Ah, I forgot, so instead I'll leave you with a joke. Why didn't the skeleton cross the road?"
I smirked. "Why?""Because he didn't have the guts!" He said with a wink and a slight shrug.
I began to laugh and shook my head. "You've got quite the funny bone," I say with a wink, trying to be just as funny as he was.
The skeleton laughed, his smile never faltering. "Great try! Heheh, I'll see ya 'round kiddo," he says with a quick wave before slipping his hand back into his coat pockets and disappearing down the street.
