Two weeks have gone by, and the whole bullying incident passed without anyone else learning about it. Things went back to the way they were. Well, kind of. I was still getting weird looks from that boy, who I later learned is known as Derek, and he often gave me trouble during passing period. The teacher had been giving me weird grades, and wouldn't fix them unless I made an issue of it.
I've also been having nightmares, but now it was every single night. Sleep has become a thing of the past, and it's beginning to catch up to me. I space out a lot during class, but today I was wide awake.
After school, Sans was going to take me to Grillby's new restaurant! I couldn't wait! Ever since Grillby left the Underground, he's been talking about how he wanted to remake Grillbys on the surface.
"To bring my amazing food to the humans!" He would say. It took him the last five years to invest and get everything ready, and now it was open for business! Yesterday, Sunday, was the grand opening, but Sans and I weren't able to stay and eat. So tonight we'd grab dinner together.
As I thought of my plans tonight, the teacher began to speak about history of monsters and men.
She spoke of the war that happened between them. This started a class discussion on Monsters on the Surface.
Not many kids spoke, but the few that did said they didn't mind the monsters, but their parents didn't like them.Suddenly, Derek decided to add his opinion to the class discussion.
"I believe that the monsters should be sent back to the Underground," he said in a matter of fact tone.
I instantly felt defensive, but stayed quiet as Derek spoke.
"I feel that things have gotten much worse here ever since those things have come onto the Surface. They are disgusting creatures who want so badly to blend with Humans, but in reality, they can never be trusted-"
As Derek rambled on, my eyes traveled to Monster Kid, and I watched as he cringed. The only class I have with MK and this is how it'll go for the day. Every word that came from Derek's mouth was a knife to MK. Derek was doing this on purpose. He knew there was a monster here!
What irritated me even more was the fact that the teacher knew this as well, but allowed Derek to continue his insults.
Disgusting, scum, evil, filth! Each word from his mouth pushing me over. Finally I had had enough. I raised my hand.
"Excuse me," I interrupted Derek and the teacher looked at me.
I didn't even give her time to reply as I began to speak."I feel that the things Derek is saying is very hurtful to my good friend MK and I would like to respectfully ask him to stop talking."
"What? Are you against freedom of speech, Frisk?" Derek asked, raising an eyebrow.
I stayed calm.
"Oh no, I'm not against it at all, but I am against bullying."The teacher then decided to pitch in. "Alright, let's just sit down and let this go." She said it to seem like a good person.
Derek glared at me before shrugging.
"It's alright, monster lover doesn't like to hear the truth about her disgusting, murdering, souless-""Is that all you do Derek? Do you pick on others to make you feel special somehow?" I felt so scary all of the sudden. The tension in the room rose.
"That's enough Frisk, take a seat-"
"You say these things because you get pleasure from hurting others like my friends. You believe these things because you want to differentiate yourself from the Monsters, but you know what Derek? The only monster I see in this room is you."
The whole room went silent, and Derek glared at me from his desk. My words hit home. I looked over at MK and his thankful smile was all I needed to reassure me that I did the right thing.
But that victory was short lived, as I felt a hand on my arm and I was immediately pulled out to the hallway. "To the office young lady," yelled the teacher before she went into the classroom and slammed the door.
I sighed, feeling annoyed with the teacher and Derek, but I felt good knowing I stood up for MK. Slowly, I made my way down to the office.
